Refusing new tariff prices while your switch occurs
I saw this mentioned a few weeks back but this board is so busy it's took me an age looking through previous posts and I've still not found it.
I applied for my switch (dual fuel) just before all the last caps got removed.
I then got my letter in Aug from BG saying my prices increased on the 30th of July.
Now someone else on this board said that BG are legally obliged to give notice (I think 30 days was mentioned) of a price increase and that you do not have to accept their new terms.
I obvously do want to accept their new prices as I have chosen to cease my contract with BG.
Has anyone else refused new prices? If so can you clarify either what I need to do or what my rights are so I can ring them up and argue it if needs be.
Thanks

Any utility company has up to 65 working days after the date of a price change to formally notify you of that change.
When you receive that formal notification you have 10 days(might be 14?) to tell them you intend to change supplier. If you do you do not pay the increased rate.
I assume that this would still apply if you applied to change supplier berore the official notification letter arrived.
However as you were on a capped rate, and applied to leave just before the capped term ended, the position is unclear.
My guess would be that you will be OK and not pay the increased rate as you would have reverted to the standard tariff and then applied to leave.0 -
Thanks for your help. I will ring them tomorrow.0
