Keeping central heating on all the time?
I was chatting to a customer at work who is a plumber. He said it is cheaper to keep the central heating on 24/7 at a low level rather than having it in bursts as that uses more energy. (i.e. the boiler uses a lot of energy to heat a cold house up and less just keeping a warm house warm) I don't think I'd do it as I have…

British Gas - Electricity: too late to change?
My Dad gets the Gas and Electricity from BG. He's just had an electricity statement and at the bottom is says that our monthly payments will increase from £37 a month to £67.00! Should we be changing, is it too late to change? We really haven't got a clue. A few years ago we went with Scottish Power and ending up moving…

Pre-payment problem!

Why is this a problem? I have swapped in the past with door to door people from BG to think it was Calortec ( or something like that, a few…

Switching to British Gas Monthly
My partner and I moved into our council house in June. It has prepayment meters for gas and electricity with British Gas. As I signed up for the winter rebate with them it made sense to stay with them when I signed up for a monthly account. I did through quidco for £40 cashback (which has tracked) a month ago. I got the…

NPower, £60 M&S Vouchers Offer.
This is for existing gas customers only. If you call them and say you are thinking of changing supplier they should offer you £60 of M&S vouchers to stay with npower, but you will have to change you electric supply to npower as well. Also, if you pay both gas and electric with direct debit, you will also qualify for a £60…

Is this the real deal
I just found this in my inbox for my PM's, "Hi this is John Tucker and I help lower gas bills. We work with clients all over the world from Holiday Inn Hotels to Eastman Kodak. Very quick, say if you pay for 100 mcfs of gas a month, you are really only using 80 mcfs, but paying for 100mcfs, and what we do is eliminate the…

Gas prices to fall?
Hello everybody - I've just got back from holiday and heard on the news that gas prices are set to fall next year. Apparently they cannot come down before then because the utility companies buy forward. However, isn't this great news?

Hedging against Gas/Electricity Prices
Hello there, I Was just wondering if you guys can comment on a strategy which I been thinking about. We all know gas/electricity/oil prices are rising....leading to increased energy bills for us. Suppose if we were to 'hedge' against this, just like airlines who hedge against oil prices. Any advice will be appreciated.

Spam? John Tucker and George Town Utilities
I got this private message today from JonTucker1. Did anyone else get one? Any thoughts on what he & his website say? I think it's down-right cheeky for a newbie to be sending advert PMs.

Switching Site Accuracy
Having passed the anniversary of my contract and now being told it is OK to switch, I have been looking into just that. The switching sites all suggest that I change from NPower to Atlantic so I have just spent an hour working out what I would have paid with Atlantic v NPower last year based on current prices - does that…

Saved £250pa with British Gas!
I am with British Gas on standard tariff for both gas and electricity. I went to confused.com to see if I could get a better deal. To my amazement, second on the list was British Gas, with their Click Energy tariff, showing a saving of £250pa. I rang BG to get details. It is an online only tariff. You get online bills only…

Switching in a shared house.
There are 3 of us in this house and are rent has now changed from "All Inclusive" to "Rent plus Bills". The current provider is Scottish Power Manweb for both electricity and gas and the landlord provided details of a bill of £105 a month for this. Obviously, we wish to get it cheaper than this. BUT, can 3 people switch? I…

How to find out tariff name?
I'm trying to help my parents put an end to their profligacy and have got as far as Gas and Electricity bills. They are on a BG dual fuel (Economy 7) tariff but in order to use a comparison site we obviously need to know the name of this tariff. I phoned BG and they would not supply the information - they just said "It's…

Advice wanted about my bill!
Hello, I am with powergen for gas and elec and they really underestimated my bills last year (and tbh I was never asked for actual readings and never did them for one reason or another) Now they have realised this and have worked out that to bring my account back to a credit (it is over £1000) now, they want to increase my…

Npower new pricing?
Npower Sign online SOL6 is top of my switch list, saving me over £200 from Powergen Online. But is this the new Npower tariff? When I use the Npower savings calculator on their site it states the prices are valid from 1st Oct 2006, but can I trust that? Does anyone have any information on the new tariff?
