British Gas trying to steal my supply!!!
We are with Scottish Hydro for dual fuel and quite happy too. Paying by monthly DD and happy with what we have but today when opening our mail there is a letter from them saying sorry to hear you are leaving. So DH called then straight away and as it turns out BG are trying to swap us over to them. We told Hydro that NO we…

Please help! Economy 7 bill, but standard meter.
Hi All, I know NOTHING regarding Electric.. Yet I do know that my bill has gone from £300 a year to £1000 a year since moving house and inheriting the supplier! I rang my new supplier last year as I noticed that we were being billed for Economy 7 and I knew that as we did not use appliances over night that it did not…

npower sign online tariffs
Here's something interesting: May 2. New Sign Online 5 tariff released. Existing Sign Online 4 customers are not affected by this change. The SOL5 tariff is very similar to their standard tariff. The SOL4 tariff is a good 25% cheaper. For the moment look like those of you who are on SOL4 are onto a good thing.

Anyone else not received their champagne from uSwitch?
I switched gas and electricity suppliers on 15th March with uSwitch but haven't received my bottle of champagne as promised. I emailed them in April but haven't had a reply. Has anyone else? Was I supposed to fill in an form or do something extra to be eligible? Chudleyette

Student House Bonanza
Christ im getting worried about all this now Basically we have a gas and electricity bills between 7 of us and its always a struggle to get the money off everyone. The electricity bill is in my name, basically the electricity company just took my name at random off the tenancy agreement. Were paying the bills as they come,…

Board Guide volunteers wanted for the Utilities Boards (and others)
Hi, We're looking for one, maybe two, board guides to cover the Utilities Boards. You'd also have to be willing to cover at least one other board on the forum so it's really best for someone that reads the forums most days (though obviously not all). If you'd be interested please reply to this thread. Please remember,…

Conspiracy theory on fixed prices!
I fixed my dual fuel bill with British Gas in September last year. Since then I have received two bills, and the usage on both bills is over double that of the same time last year and the year before (both of which were around the same)! My theory is that they've fixed the prices but somehow increased the speed that my…

Can this be right?
Hi all I've just plugged my details into energyhelpline.com to see if I can save by switching my gas and electricity providers. I've never switched so am still with Powergen for electricity (£240 per year) and BG for gas (£270 per year). I put the £ into the checker as when I put in the kWh it calculated my expenditure…

Double Glazing Energy Savings
I had a house built eighteen years ago. It has extensive glazing and, as was perceived wisdom in 1988, I specified sealed unit double glazing in hardwood frames. I got them from a firm that was reputed to be the best manufacturer and they cost serious money. Now there are several schools of thought about the energy savings…

Electricity Capped Prices
I am currently with Powergen for my electricity and have been offered the possiblity of capping their prices until 2010. This offer is capped not fixed, there are no lock-ins or cancellation fees, but there are restrictions and a premium applies - apparently only available to Standard and Economy 7 customers. I know I am…

EQUIGAS (think that's spelt right!)
I have just done yet another comparison and Equigas have come out as best this time. In the blurb it says that this is a small utility company (non-profit making!!) and therefore their service cannot be commented on. Is this true? Has anyone actually switched to them? I am getting so confused, the goal posts seem to move…

Scottish Power Increasing My DD...
I've been with SP for dual fuel for 6 months now, so basically over the winter months. My initial direct debit was for £30, which I thought would be about about right. I received a letter this morning saying that my account has been reviewed, and the DD is being increased to £51 for 'a 6 month period'. I currently owe £60,…

Huge Gas & Elec Usage
Hi all, Basically I'm looking into switching from BG and Scottishpower for gas and elec respectively for the first time. What I am most concerned about, however, is our gas and elec usage. It seems extremely high. We live in a reasonably sized old tenament flat with 3 bedrooms. There are 4 of us and we have 3 tvs, 2…

I only use the heater in the lounge which as far as i know comes on at night time. I am at work all day and away every other weekend so how come i've…

British Gas & 0845 numbers
Had my quarterly bill yesterday with the 'regular' "Important notice Payment reassessment" at the bottom saying, not asking, that they will be increasing my monthly Direct Debit payment by 66%. In the past British Gas have tried this and I've always called them on 0800 numbers to tell them that I don't accept this increase…

New Supplier from Next Week
hi, from next wednesday i shall no longer be a british gas customer, and obviously they will send a final bill. My friend has told me that by law they have to offer me a payment scheme to pay off any outstanding amount. Does anyone know if this is correct? Also i recently had my quarterly bill, is this what the outstanding…
