hi,
from next wednesday i shall no longer be a british gas customer, and obviously they will send a final bill.
My friend has told me that by law they have to offer me a payment scheme to pay off any outstanding amount.
Does anyone know if this is correct? Also i recently had my quarterly bill, is this what the outstanding balance will be? or was that for the supply i'd used in the last quarter?
im just trying to get an idea what to expect with the final bill, if anyone knows how they work it out, id be very grateful

Obviously, when you officially leave BG as supplier that is when you will stop buying gas from them, and you will owe for gas used right up until that day. take a read on that day. That is the amount you have used from BG and will be required to pay for.
Depending on your outstanding amount and your circumstances will depend on whether you could reasonably expect a payment scheme. However your debt is usually transferred to your new supplier.
I would have thought any amount less than £50 and you're paying it in full.
I don't know which law your friend is refering to regarding mandatory offering of a payment scheme on a final debt. Do you know how much you owe currently (if anything?)It's BOUGHT (to Buy), not BROUGHT (to bring) AND you cannot be frauded, only DEfrauded.
Please do not buy animals from a pet store. Visit your local sanctuary or centre and give a good home to an unloved or abandoned animal.0 -
It was my understanding that if you have a debit balance you must settle your account before you can transfer; although I am not sure how that applies to a final bill if you were fully paid up to date at the time of application.
I can hardly see a new supplier taking on your debt as suggested.0 -
my new supplier said it wont take the outstanding amount.
I think the final bill could be about £200, im hoping they do offer me a scheme to pay it offHelen

They don't HAVE to offer a payment scheme by law, but when you get your final bill, ring up and ask to set up an arrangement on it and they will sort something out with you.
Cardew - it's only bills a customer has owed for more than 28 days that have to be paid before switching. So if someone had a bill in January, didn't pay, then tried to switch in March, still having not paid, then they wouldn't be able to switch.0
