Interest tax-free changes on savings April 2016
I was reading an article which said about the first £1,000 of savings interest tax-free for basic rate taxpayers from April 2016 Does anyone actually know how this will work? i.e. is it per bank? If for example you have multiple bank accounts accruing interest at the moment on the basic rate of tax, do they look at all…

I have TSB Classic plus, and I just tried to apply for another current account with TSB, so that I can switch it to Halifax and get the bonus. So, I went into my account, clicked on the link under "Compare and Apply" for Current Accounts. The page starts "Open Another Classic Account". I skimmed the page and clicked on the…

Best way to convert 20k euro in cash.
I will happen to have 20k euro in cash. What is the most efficient way to convert them into pounds? I think going straight to the bank and depositing them is the least efficient.

Can you have a Paypal a/c without giving debit card details?
I'm applying for a Paypal account which I only want to fund by direct debit but I can't get past the page requesting the numbers from your debit card, which simply aren't required for DDs. Is there a way around this, and what would be the earliest date I could set up a DD from my Club Lloyds a/c to fund it?

US Bank Account
We currently have a US Bank account, with Bank of America. We own a property over there and use the account to pay all the bills and so on. The account balance(s) ( there is both a checking account and a savings account) are very healthy. My wife was over there in October, and while there managed to lose her purse (not…

Transferred money to closed account
Hi - I recently transferred £50 to my brother's account, only to find out it was an old (closed) account and I had transferred it to the wrong one (not realising he had changed it). Anyway I called the bank who put in a recall for it but today I have received this, saying they cannot retrieve the money and a letter has…

Name formatting on debit/credit cards
Currently some of my debit/credit cards displays my full first name and last name (e.g. Joe Bloggs), and some are just the first initial and full last name (J Bloogs). I like my cards to have just my first initials and full last name (e.g. J Bloggs). If i call the bank to put a request saying that once my cards expire, i…

2015 - No fee bank accounts. Where are they?
'By the end of 2015, everyone will be able to have a basic bank account. And unlike now (and this includes the accounts below) these new basic accounts will be completely fee-free - there will be no charge for failed payments (Virgin Money already has this - see below). Quote from Moneysavingexpert - Aug 2015 We're trying…

euros account
I'm a UK citizen and resident earning £20,000 a year. I earn about 3,000 euros a year from occasional freelance work I do in the eurozone and spend about 3,000 euros a year on holidays in the eurozone. Bank charges mean that I lose a lot when euro payments go in and out of my UK sterling bank account. I would like to open…

Is it too late to switch a 123 a/c before Fri 1/1/16?
My San 123 a/c month ends on 18th Jan but I want to avoid the £5 fee. My DDs go out on the 1st Jan so was hoping to have these with FD. If I switched to First Direct tonight (haven't even got an a/c with them yet!), then the sixth working day would be Thursday 31st. Is the 7-day switching a maximum, and usually done much…

Easy access savings account
I have the usual current account, fixed rate savings account and fixed rate ISA. The bonus for the account I have now ends in January and I would like any…

CHAPS Payment held up by "Compliance Team"
Hi, I'm getting rather concerned that a house sale payment has not made it to my account because of HSBC's Compliance Team? I completed a house sale last Friday and was told by lunchtime the money was with our solicitors. After confirming the completion of the house my solicitor then transferred the money to my account via…

Denied Second Bank Of Scotland Account
My wife and I are in the process of transferring money to Bank Of Scotland, to take advantage of their 3% Vantage accounts. We're opening separate accounts, so hopefully 6 in all. Should a standing order be received today?
Every pay day my partner transfers money into my bank account for the household bills. Today due to a problem at his company nobody got paid. My employers and I came to a compromise agreement on 17th December to leave the business and despite me asking my solicitor to stipulate BACS payment by noon today the agreement was worded that they had to pay my termination figure within 7 days of the agreement being signed. Having worked hard for them for 4 years and…

Posh Bank cards
Well it's Christmas time so time to talk posh. Lets talk about the poshest bank cards we have had or seen. I served someone the other day who had a TSB Premier VISA Debit card, very fancy but I know that's a fee paying account that's not available any more, so it wasn't exclusive when it came out but now is a wee bit more…

Contactless at Petrol Stations - Who accepts Contactless?
So I've got the TSB 5% contactless cards that I might as well use - and petrol is likely to be one of my main sources of contactless, hopefully. Does anyone know where accepts them - and, less importantly, whether their terminals accept up to £30 yet (i.e. upgraded) The main list of petrol stations I want to know about:…
