Should a standing order be received today?

Every pay day my partner transfers money into my bank account for the household bills.

Today due to a problem at his company nobody got paid.

This has since been rectified and my partner has shown me that the standing order has left his account.

It left his account before 3:30pm so my bank have said it should be there today.

It still hasn't shown in my account, I thought a faster payment showed up instantly?

How long should I leave it before panicking?!

Some banks/business banks won't release payments after X PM and would be processed the next morning

How strange, when I spoke to Halifax on the phone they said as long as it left his account before 3:30 it would reach mine today.

    Even more worried now haha

I'd wait until tomorrow, worst case he will need to call & chase up the payment as your own bank won't see anything if the payments not been released yet from their end.

Although Standing Orders go via the Faster Payments channel, there are batch processes involved. I expect it'll all be ok tomorrow morning but if not, that's when you should chase it up.

Faster Payments aren't guaranteed to be instant, they normally arrive instantly but banks say within 2 hours. And strictly they can arrive the next day (D+1) and still be within the rules.

So the money is what 12 hours late, due to a legitimate reason and already you are worried and posting on here, are you really that desperate or that skint?
12:19am really your sitting waiting for it to appear. Hopefully you won't beat your partner for this traumatic situation you find yourself in.

Haha yes it looks like that :)

Yes I am a bit skint at the mo, bills due out and got £13 in the bank (don't be fooled by my signature, I can't easily access that money)

I have been to bed already but woke up worrying about it.

Beat my partner? Now there's an idea! ;)

Yes it would be traumatic if the money didn't appear, I wish I earnt enough to cover all the nursery fees and mortgage. Then I wouldn't need my partner ;)

Has it arrived yet? As I said there are various batch processes involved with Standing Orders. And incoming credits don't actually hit at the stroke of midnight anyway. I think you said you bank with the Halifax, if you're still having issues tell us where your partner banks as well and someone might know how their Standing Orders work.

Also if it's not turned up, get your partner to check it's not credited back to his account. It might have showed as leaving before the salary credit arrived and therefore been recalled by the bank. In which case he'll need to send you a manual Faster Payment.

Thank you, no it's still not arrived.

My partner banks with Natwest, I'll get him to check it's not been sent back to him
