Should a standing order be received today?

When he checked yesterday evening it hadn't been sent back.
Or would they send it back overnight?0 -

I think if he checked in the evening, he would have seen it being sent back if it had been. But get him to check again this morning. If it's showing as leaving his account and hasn't arrived with you, he needs to speak to Natwest (as the sending bank they need to check what's happened, if the Halifax haven't received the money there isn't a lot they can do).
I assume this Standing Order has existed for several months at least so you know it's set up correctly?0 -
Yes it's been sent before. I will get him to check again this morning.
Luckily we're both off work today so can go to the bank and find out what's going on.
If it was only a few £s I wouldn't mind but it's £1,7000 -
Now we know the sending bank is Nat West we are in a better position to give you more information. Standing Orders are processed overnight to the Faster Payments system, between around 02:00 - 06:00 (usually earlier rather than later) by NW, so although the money may have shown as gone from the account yesterday afternoon it hadn't actually gone anywhere at that time. It should by now be with Halifax, so it depends on when they post incoming SOs to their accounts. That could be done immediately, but it might be left until this evening to be done overnight.
I wouldn't waste your time going to a branch, far better to ring up customer services, if they can't check on the status of a payment themselves they will be able to pass the query on to someone who can.
If the SO is set to go out on the same day that his pay comes in there is always a risk of delay, you'd be better to ask him to change the SO to the day after.0
