What is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker. We also accept that, sometimes, life just gets on top of us and we can't keep up, maybe because we're time-poor, not in the best of health and/or we have littlies who need us. We are definitely NOT control freaks aiming for perfection and utterly spotless show-homes.
Welcome to the weekly Flylady Thread. You're more than welcome to join us in the everlasting battle against dust, grime and gibble. The aim of our thread is to make those onerous tasks less daunting, and to support each other - and to make time for the finer things in life!
Please do remember we have to abide by MSE rules; each post should, ideally, include some mention of flying.
Thank you Natty for last week's thread
Please follow the forum rules on this thread as Flylady has been here a LONG time and is a fabulous support and resource for lots of us. All posts should have some Flylady-related (ooh a compound adjective) content!
The idea is that even if you are really busy you don't need to fall off the wagon!
Every room comes back around next week so please don!!!8217;t stress about catching up
These lists are only suggestions and not a must do list; you are more than welcome to post and follow your own lists.
Also adding a declutter mission each day will help to gradually clear the clutter and make flying easier.
A few of the basics before we start the week
Hotspots are areas where if one thing gets put there, loads of other things follow!
Daily routines are anything you need to do on a daily basis like washing, swish and swipe kitchen and bathroom, ironing, making beds, vacuuming high traffic areas, making meals etc.
Night-time routines are all things which make getting ready in the morning easier, preparing clothes for the next day, making lunches, swish & swipes of the kitchen and tidying the living room before you go to bed plus personals like shower/brush teeth etc.
Fling Boogie - stick on some loud music, grab a bin bag and whiz around the house finding items that can go out with the rubbish, recycling, for charity shop, basically anything that will stop it cluttering your home.
Swish and swipe/S&S means have a quick wipe over an area such as a sink or toilet to prevent the build up of dirt. This is usually done on a daily basis
HHE/HHC/HHI Half Hour exercise/challenge/ironing ... run around for 30 minutes to the Benny Hill music frantically cleaning exercising or ironing.. other music may be used if you prefer!
WM ~ Washing machine
TD ~ Tumble dryer
SC ~ Slowcooker
BM ~ Breadmaker
DW ~ Dishwasher
SOAADFA ~ Sit on 'bottom' and do 'nothing'
KH/XH/FW ~ Ex-husband and other not so polite versions
DH/DD/DS/DW/DP ~ Dear husband/daughter/son/wife/partner/whatever
OH/SO ~ Other half/significant other
NN ~ nice neighbour
Toxic (friend/mother/sister/whoever) ~ person in your life that seems to exist to make your life miserable
AF ~ Aunt Flo 'time of the month'.. nothing to do with flying but it comes up often.
ETA ~ Edited to add
Gibble ~ miscellaneous crap that appears forever homeless
Dot-to-dot ~ pick a small area (not a whole room) like a chair/coffee/table/shelf/worktop or wherever- thats your first 'dot' - totally clear it - clean it - and only put back what should be there - deal with what you have removed (not just move it somewhere else) then if you have time move on and do the same to another 'dot' -the idea is just like a dot to dot puzzle, you aim to join up all the dots and have a tidy room. The trick is to keep each dot tidy until you get them all joined up! All credit to AnW's Mum for this one
RoD ~ Room of Doom, the one room that feels like it is a permanent pit and cannot be used to its potential!
MAD half hour
- Mad is the abbreviation for Make A Difference.
The idea is that you have a Forth bridge (ie never-ending - or just huge) task but that you work on it in half-hour bursts. This way you know you ARE stooping, and that you won't get it finished but you will make a difference - so it might be clearing out - the garage or shed, or clothes sorting, or weeding - you get the picture - but rather than keep going until you've lost the will to live you do half an hour...but, eventually those half hours will get the job done!
Mr S/A/T/M/L/Al - supermarkets Sainsburys, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi. You get the picture!!

Thank you Valli and Natty. I shall be in as much as possible this week.
All travelling done safely today I walked 2 miles to church in 45 minutes and was offered a lift home - by which time the roads were clear and the temperature was rising. Back here, i spent 30 minutes clearing our front drive and the cul-de-sac road so that I could get my car out this afternoon to fetch Rosie - fortunately by then the country lane leading to the kennels was not too bad. I took Rosie out for 3/4 hour walk when we got home so that she could have fun in the snow and she is now happily stretched out on the floor behind my chair, having helped us dispose of the inedible bits of a couple of yellow stickered rump steak slices that I decluttered from the fridge for tea
Officially shattered now!
Tomorrow DH has a horse piddle appointment at 08:30 and I must call in at the auto body repairs nearby about the scratch made 3 weeks ago by the huge 4x4 driven by the incompetent woman. I've parked my car at the bottom of the hill in case we get more snow overnight Rosie has her class at 2.00 pm, and in the evening I'm driving over to see DDiL2 (and hopefully DS2 and the boys too!) In between, I shall be doing college prep.
Hope everyone has a good week. (((Hugs))) spoons and sticks all round, as needed x0 -

Thanks for threads and lists.
After wimping out of a run this morning, I walked to church. Got home, did a small amount of tidying and finished a report. Then gritted teeth and went to the gym where I managed to do more than the 5km I'm aiming for at the Park run, in less than the time I'd feared (the 2 slowest last week were just over an hour and I did it on the treadmill in 41 mins). So I feel vaguely happier that the run is going to happen before my birthday although I won't be breaking any records and may have to have a couple of walk breaks. Came out of the gym and it was snowing again. Went to MIL who seems fairly happy with my ministrations so far, although we had a discussion about half a can of soup which had been lurking around. I told her it had a furry bit (it may actually just have been a bit of the chicken soup) and she reluctantly let me bin it. She seems to think cans live for ever, even if they have been opened, so long as they are in the fridge....mm "live" is the operative word here.
Printed off info on a couple of potential private clients.
'signed' and emailed completed report.
And I have just registered for the Park Run. Bites nails.Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.0 -
Hi, many thanks for the lists.
I'm in for this week please and will do what I can. Everything is a bit more settled with DD thankfully so feel I can carry on a bit more like normal again.Flymarkeeteer: £168 and counting0 -
I visited my mate. And got stranded there overnight thanks to the weather. Finally got on a train this afternoon that, according to the app and website, didn't exist and wasn't happening, only to find an announcement after it had departed that it was going fast into London and everybody who hadn't paid for central London needed to get off at the next stop and wait for a replacement minibus service (to travel over 30 miles through the countryside in a blizzard, taking an estimated 4 hours compared to the usual 25 minutes on the train). I put on my best puppydog eyes for the conductor and said 'I can't.'
He let me stay on.
Then I got stranded in London instead, Yay. Managed to sneak myself into position to be on the correct platform when the only train for over an hour rolled in and then watched in disbelief as the man running the tannoy was yelling through it for people to GET BACK, IT'S DANGEROUS as hundreds of passengers spotted it coming and stormed that platform en masse.
Himself had been equally stranded the other side of London overnight.
We met in the nearest pub to one of our home stations. And have just got home (after my recounting that the woman who threw a strop about people wanting her to not hold her giant suitcase in front of the train doors and refusing to move it when half the carriage needed to get off before the doors closed again, suddenly changed her mind and moved it when I answered her question about 'what are you going to do about it?' with a polite suggestion that if she liked, I would be more than happy to hoy it out of the door onto the platform with a size 7, but I would far rather she just moved the damn thing instead).
I'm now beginning to feel slightly less misanthropic again.
It was lovely walking in to find that the central heating was working, though. And I really didn't care whether he'd left the washing up once I'd gone yesterday or not.I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0 -

Morning all,
I am in thank you for the lists. Sorry was AWOL over the weekend, not feeling very positive at all and nothing happy to say. The usual really - feel taken for granted at home, dodgy electrics playing up again resulting in house alarm going off all hours (to which DH response is - don't worry, it'll get sorted  - not by him clearly as he's working away for weeks now), tax meeting which I have managed to move forward to next week, the unknown of if we will be fined etc etc.
Oh and we are absolutely skint. Taken on some extra paid stuff starting today to ease the burden.
Dizzy and YL- so sorry to hear of your money worries too.
Oh and we have yet more snow, the pipes are frozen and I am praying school is open.
Sorry, feel free to ignore. Just haven't felt this put upon, unappreciated and anxious in years. Hugs to all in need xMFW
