the stuff from lidls is just as good, well better cos its cheaper.
Have you just tried runnning it empty on a power wash after topping up the salt and the rinse aid? Usually works for mine if its getting a bit whiffy.

    And theres always vinegar...;)

  • a tea cup of white vinegar & run through empty on a hottish cycle.

Thats what I do anyway & it works!

Don't forget to clean all the bits that you can get off. Bits of food gets trapped & needs to be washed out under the tap.

There are a couple of threads on smelly dishwashers in the Appliances section of the MEFA Index sticky that might help too :)

Silly question time. Where do I put the cup of vinegar? In the salt bit? I haven't used dishwasher cleaner before but I think I really ought to do something fairly soon......

Sit the cup UPRIGHT in one of your trays and about half full of vinegar. If your machine does a pre wash you need to hang around and put the vinegar in after this.

    HTH :)

  • When I clean mine out, I get a cup of boiling water and an old brush and scrub around the rubber seal, rinsing it down as I go. I just use a bit of cheap washing up liquid as its not too bubbly. I also take out the filter-where it collects the bits of food waste and give it a good scrub in soapy water and bleach. Then I put it on a rinse. After this, I pour in half a cup of cheap bleach and put it on a normal wash, empty.
This is far more thorough than any of the expensive cleaners to clean dishwashers. I only do this about every 3 months, the rest of the time I just empty the filter and rinse it.

I don't know if it'll do exactly the same but I run mine through empty on a hot wash once a month with 1/2 cup of white vinegar (in a cup). Also if I ever have some lemon left over I pop that in the top rack as it leaves the DW smelling lovely.
  • aldi do a product in same type of bottle as Finish ... with nearly identical content analysis .

Do it in a twinpack ... works out at under 80p a bottle which is crazy price compared to Finish. Used it couple of years now .. perfect.

for some curious reason they don't do it as a permanent line... just available for a couple of weeks 3 or 4 times a year .
I just keep a stock of a dozen bottles !

Never seen anyone else do that Finish type of product.

only other one i know is in the "astonish" range which only some of the "cheapo stores" stock.

apart from that it's the vinegar job i think !!
  • Thanks will keep a look out for it! Will give the lemon trick a go too x
