As the title really!

Its our 25th next year and I would like to go to somewhere where there's a little bit of a wow factor, somewhere where you wouldn't necessarily go 2 years following if you get my drift!

And this is where the 'discussions' have hit the buffers.

So if you were planning a holiday for a special occasion how did you choose where to go?

Is the problem lack of ideas or different ideas?

First, decide on a budget - this is money site after all!

My parents and a lot of their friends have done cruises for big anniversaries. I think it's probably because you'd only do a special cruise once. Why don't you go and have a look in a travel agents and see what sort of things catch your eye? Obviously being MSE you don't have to buy there, but some brochures could be good for inspiration
  • I think its a lack of ideas - my criteria was as above whereas OH hasn't got any !

We can't spend stupid money on the holiday but would be willing to spend perhaps a little more than a normal 2 week break would cost

I just have a feeling that we'll end up not going anywhere as normal!

As previously posted, think about what you want to spend and what you want out of the holiday.

Do you want to be with lots of people, just the two of you or a mix.

Personally I love the little villas in the sea like these, http://www.kenwoodtravel.co.uk/indian-ocean/maldives/centara-ras-fushi-resort-spa-hotel/ although that was just a random google, and we will do that as a special holiday at some point.

A cruise was mentioned but OH has said he'd only consider a fjord one but I was kind of hoping for some sun and warmth!

If I'm honest I think OH doesn't see the 'need' for the holiday - he's not against going on holiday per se, just he doesn't see why I feel the need to make it a special one

You've still given us nothing to go on - how much is a normal holiday to you? Where have you been before and enjoyed (or not)?

The date you want to go (assuming your plan is to be away on your anniversary?) will affect a choice of destination. For example if you wanted to go in February, most Med resorts are a bit chilly and not fully open for business, but the Canaries are warm, or you could have a great city break somewhere like Paris, Venice or New York.

DH and I have this all the time. We can't decide on anything including a budget, so we research our favourite ideas and then keep a look out for a sale.

Maybe do a bucket list to help with this? I have a look at Kuoni offers by price and on iglu.com for cruise offers as every so often they have deals that are too good to say no to. However I look an awful lot!

Oh don't jackomdj - I suggested something like that and lets just say it didn't go down too well!

(I think he's comment was something like 'oh lets do something original and romantic eh)

I've even said I don't necessarily want to go away for our anniversary so even the time of year isn't a barrier

I don't think we've been away (as in staying in a hotel) more than 10 times in all the years we've been married....I guess that's why I want next year's to be abit special

generally we go away in the caravan or was enjoying staycations even before they become news worthy
