Illegal parking in cycle lanes - name and shame
Options
Having become totally fed up with cars/vans/minicabs parked in the cycle lanes on my way to and from Uni and nothing being done I have started a small campaign on facebook. Whenever I come across such a vehicle I take a picture of it and upload it here:

I know the local police in charge of students fairly well through a liaison committee I sit on and they're very interested in it, and have said if I draft a letter they will put it on headed paper and send it out to the registered keepers, which would be fantastic.
Shameless plugging but I know there are a few Mancunians and a few cyclists here so thought you'd be interested.

Don't think it's illegal to park in cycle lanes, unless there's a solid line separating them.
That's why they are so crap.0 -
Yeah I know its not illegal to park in them when they're dashed, surely not legal to double park though? Certainly inconsiderate and lazy.
He wasn't OK parking there - its a no loading zone:

Double yellow markings on the pavement.
And yeah, those cycle lanes are a joke and I generally do ride outside them. Others are ok though if you look at some other pictures...0 -
Honestly I think you're mental cycling down Wilmslow Road in the first place - it's one of the most cycle unfriendly roads in the North West and was never really suitable for such schemes. The whole road is a ribbon development of shops, bars, restaurants, supermarkets etc where there will always be rubbish parking, delivery vans, buses and drunk students stepping into cycle lanes without looking.
I regularly cycle through Didsbury and Withington via Palatine Road and to the city centre down Yew Tree Road and Lloyd Street North and never face any of these issues.0 -
As I understand it, it is supposedly illegal to park in any cycle lane..... But drivers are not allowed to encroach into cycle lanes with solid white lines.... ?“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

There are "Part Time" cycle lanes in London0 -
There are "Part Time" cycle lanes in London
1. Full time cycle lanes - solid white line
2. Part time mandatory cycle lanes - solid white lines and a sign saying the appropriate times.
3. Advisory cycle lanes - dashes white lines.
1 and 2 work like bus lanes (supposedly), 3 can be a bit of a waste of time.0 -
solved it in Edinburgh
