Anti-Marketing Group...Genuine?

Hi! This is my first post, so please forgive me if I've put it in the wrong place!

This isn't strictly about money saving, but potentially to stop me from getting ripped off, which would save me money!

I've just had a call from the 'Anti-Marketing Group' who say they can stop marketing calls to our house and stop junk mail. It sounded all good until the woman who called said I would have to pay £3 p/m, which sounds reasonable to be fair to stop all those horrible calls, but I was wary as I would obviously have to give her my bank details to set this up. I told her this and she gave me a number to call back (08007832860), their address in Norwich and their data protection number, (I think!) Z143096X. Does anybody know if this company is genuine because I'd love to sign up if they are!

I'm sorry if this has already been discussed elsewhere, but I did search the site and forum and came up with no matches. I know you guys on here are a wealth of info, so I'm hoping a few people will know a bit more about them!

Cheers in advance!

    A cold-calling anti-marketing group - that sounds genuine.

I can't possibly see how it could work tbh.

Hmmm, that's what I thought, but I did sign up to that company that you put your phone number in and they're supposed to stop your cold calls. Can't remember what they were called though!!

Lol... don't do it. You will be paying them £3 per month to keep you off their list, not any other companies.

Why pay when you can sign up to TPS amd MPS for the same thing free.

Look like another scam company after money, they try to make out with a load of waffle that they are better than TPS.

i know for definate this is a con, seriously don't do it!!!
    Mystery Shopping £1147/£2000 (Jan) :j

Bingo wins since Jan: £1320 :T
  • To quote Swish2k's first posting, they called me with exactly the same info they gave him. However, the guy I spoke to said it was a one-off £3 payment so I figured it could be worthwhile as I get at least 6 calls a day from scammers/salespeople/recorded messages etc

However, since the promise of no more calls from these sort of people I have had MORE than usual. So, obviously a scam!!

The question remains, how do I stop Anti Marketing Group from taking more money from my credit card???

    Any ideas gratefully accepted.

    Cheers

Your private info is only private if you keep it err...private.

Try not to trust any company with the name:

    Direct
    Consumer
    World
    Global

...in their name. The fact you think it's a good idea means you're prime meat for more spam and scam calls.

We'll need to get a thread with dodgy sounding companies but any company with "Anti-" in their name is well dodgy. Companies can't be anti- anything as they have to make money.
  • Interestingly I have just taken a call from the Anti Marketing Group who wanted to talk to me about unsolicited calls...

I told them that my number was registered with the TPS so on what basis did they think they had a right to call me unsolicited?

They hung up without even saying good bye

    Ho hum

I've got a better scheme. If anyone sends me their email address and bank details, then for an initial payment of £20 (thereafter £3 a month), I'll sign them up to a web forum where they can get financial and consumer advice.

Or even better. If anyone pays me just £5 per month, I'll supply them with air that they can breathe.

Yet another example of a company "selling" what people get for free. I bet that they just sign people up to the TPS.

I imagine what they do is take £3/month off you for signing you up to the TPS just once.
