Wow!!!!! I made the mistake of going to the link above. It sort of had some useful info, but then I went down the page to the comments.
There are some very sad people out there!!
I felt I needed a shower before coming back here!
    Long live MSE !!

But not for consumers via OTA yet .

Nope, just image download for manual flashing. It's working well on my 2012 Nexus 7.

Any news on nexus 2012 release yet? Still not received it.
I'm an old long term Microsoft user, so relatively new to Android, but this saga makes Microsoft seem positively organised.
Many years of griping about them, but now Google has become so huge it's got all the same problems. Tablets locking up, running slow, duff and non existent releases. All they need now is to adopt a Ctrl/alt/del button and they'll be just as bad. Doesn't sound like progress, just technology going full cycle.

No sign of OTA for Nexus 7 2013 yet either. There are still a few issues on my Nexus 4 with 5.0.1 so I'm hoping that a more comprehensive update will come in the not too distant future to address those problems and also to be useable on tablets.

My wife's Nexus 7 2012 is still on Kitkat 4.4.4.

It's started to run quite slow now so I think it's time for a data backup and factory reset.

I got an OTA update on my 2012 Nexus 7 to 5.0.2 last night.

Haven't used it much today (in work with no wifi) but seems OK

Staggy, that's positive news, at least it proves there's life out there!
It would be great if you could update us all here on your experiences with it. This is the only forum I've found where useful, practical info is provided. Most other forums seem to always disintegrate into a childish level of arguing. Thanks for your update.
Bod1467, is your wife's slow only on start up or all the time. Mine is very slow to start but OK afterwards

Another thought, if its become available OTA from Google , why would it not be available directly from nexus via the settings route
