hey all,

I got an email saying my current tariff for EDF ends on 31 May 2017.
You now have two options: choose a new tariff or move onto our Standard (Variable) tariff.

I am currently on:

Blue+Price Promise May 2017
Low fixed (energy) price
Always know if you’d be better off elsewhere
No exit fees
Electricity 100% backed by low-carbon generation1

Does anyone have advice on what the best tarrif would be to switch to or what to look for when deciding. Do I have to make the switch now eve though the current tarrif runs out on May 31st?

I haven't much clue about this stuff so any advice would be great :) Thanks

Go onto a couple of the comparison sites and look at the whole of the market out there, input your current annual kWh usage - the EDF site will give you that information in the quote area. Separate suppliers may be cheaper, EDF electric is £100 dearer than I currently pay and can easily be bettered. You don't have to switch now but there may be some more increases coming.

I am with them for gas only and have just switched to the Jun 18 fix (which is not on comparison sites, they seem to only have the April 18) before it disappears starting 1 Jun after the current fix ends, can't be beaten for me. The 26% unit price increase still made me wince though. No exit fee though so can ditch and switch if something cheaper comes along.

What's your use age per year in kWh and do you get the £140 a year warm home discount?

Why do they have 2 gas tariffs with the only difference being 0.005p in the unit price ?

Unfortunately, you've just missed out on a cracking deal from Iresa.

Suggest you read this MSE article and ask again if you still need more help :)

You don't have just two options - as Molerat says - Go to a comaprison website !

You will find probably 50 different suppliers.

You will need your actual consumption for the year in kwh's (not £)

Make the switch before 31 May, after then you will automatically be swapped by EDF onto their standard tariff.
Never pay on an estimated bill

Something I don't understand. The Price comparison website says (based on my current tarrif information I entered) that I am paying £1,271.48 per year? When infact I have probably only paid around £162 for the year??

Comparing my tariff info on EDF and the comparison website they are different.

    comparison website:

    Unit rate 3.042p per kWh
    Standing charge 19.24p per day

    on EDF:

    Unit rate 2.761p per kWh
Daily standing charge 26.25p per day

I entered the blue+price promise May 2016 in the information so not sure whats going on?? :S

I would question the accuracy of those figures unless no one has been living at the property for a lot of the last year.

However, if they are correct, a zero standing charge tariff such as from Ebico (RHE) would probably be best suited to you
Any accredited comparison site will give the the answer though (but it will be based on the figures you input)

You are clearly doing something wrong.

Just the standing charge on the EDF Blue+Price Promise May 2017 would come to about £162 alone.

Based on your usage figures (which I do wonder about) the total cost would be about £320 depending of supply region
