Hi, I have recently had the Energy Care Group to install wall insulation under the £99 offer; and after my experience with them I would not recommend them.
We had the quote from Energy in July this year (2009), whereby their surveyor came and made all the noises regarding quality of work and the mechanics of the procedure. I pointed out all problems I foresaw ( working over a conservatory) and was informed that they would be able to carry out the work with out any problems. I was also told that they had to complete their work to a high standard because their work was subject to random quality checks from an engineer; in order that they could carry out work under the government grant scheme. To this point I could not fault them.
The work was carried out in August, in just over an hour. I wasn’t present, however my father (with building experience) did query the relatively quick time and were they sure the work was done properly. He was assured that it was.
We were then lucky enough to be subject to one of the random checks carried out by an engineer (early October ‘09), who described the work as poor. Several areas were pointed out which were completely missed or could not have been filled properly. He contacted EnergyCare to correct the work.
I received a phonecall from EnergyCare 4th Nov ’09, to arrange another date. The caller could not have been more disinterested and sound completely annoyed that I wanted a date to suit me! Today 10th Nov; two young lads arrived half an hour late without apology or reason and carried out the work. I was left with the mess and a broken pillar which they managed to hit when leaving the property. I was told with out apology that “It’s lucky that I can lay bricks mate”. Well if that’s brick laying then I can lay eggs. They tried to leave with out asking me if I was happy with the work. It was poor to say the least.
I have just got off the phone from their head office after explaining what has happened; they have arranged for a brick layer to come on Friday morning to repair the damage. To be fair the manager I dealt with was professional, I now wait till Friday.
I may have been unlucky with service, but it’s not like I can compare them to another company next year etc. So bear this in mind before choosing.

Had a survey and quote from Energycare for loft and cavity in Oct, then recieved a date in Dec. Made arrangements for access, all going well. Then received a letter a week before, making sure we would be there because wasted journeys cost money. At 11.30 on the day got a phone call saying both crews gone off sick. Ok, when are you coming? Dont know, will ring you back, trying to get a crew to come in on Sat.They never rung back.Phoned them, different girl answered and informed me their crews have not come back in with work cards so they will ring me back at 5pm. Guess what? Yes they never rang. So i phoned again, and was told crews don`t hand in work cards till friday . Will phone back and tell me when they are coming. Guess what? They never phoned. Phoned again, and again different girl, put on hold while she spoke to manager, then came back very apologetic but it was not their fault the machine had broken and then told me they never work on a saturday. Will be sending out a new appt by post.Have heard nothing since. Imo the company is a joke and very unprofessional , Will not be having them now, have phoned British Gas who up to now could not have been more helpful.

just had the same problem.emptied loft of years of hoarding and put it all in the spare bedroom. (paid for it to be emptied as i am disabled) i received a call at 9 0,clock this morning and was told the loft insulation installer was of sick, and she could not give me another date until they send it out by letter. i now have to pay to get the stuff back up the loft so that family who is coming for christmas can use the bedroom. i also had day off work to be here for their appointment. they said the cavity wall team are still coming though. i will let you all know if that happens.
does anyone think i could claim expenses from them?.

I've got Energy Care coming tomorrow to give a quote. Has anyone had a good experience with them or are they cowboys to be avoided?

British gas contractors The Mark Group been and done a survey and all good. Suprised that they are doing it free (i am disabled) as Energycare had priced me at £70. When i asked surveyor why EC charged he could not understand it as they all work under the same guidelines.
  • I work for the Energycare Group (1 Appley Court, MK45 3QQ) in the office and I love my job and the company. We are a reputable company who have been in business for 6 years. We are approved by the British Board of Agrement (BBA) and the National Insulation Association (NIA) and all our cavity wall insulation work is guaranteed by the Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency (CIGA) for 25 years.

All new employees go through an extensive training program which, when fully trained are approved and carded by material manufactures (Instafibre) who regularly monitor our work and carry out at least 10% random checks of all our installs. Our pass rate is always above average.

As one of the largest insulation companies in the UK I believe that we try our very hardest to complete all work to the highest standard. We understand that sometimes things can go wrong but as a company we pride ourselves on rectifying and resolving any issues as soon as possible to the customers satisfaction. We also understand that unfortunately we do have to rebook some installs due to unforeseen illness or severe weather but we do try our very hardest to rebook appointments as soon as possible with little distress to our customers.

I believe it’s important for people to understand that as a company we complete in excess of 700 installations every week and to expect no complaints would be unreasonable in any industry. There will always be people that just like to complain but I assure you that there are tens of thousands of satisfied customers. I think that it is a shame that people always find time to complain but not to praise!

We always aim to be the most competitive company in our line of business. Our prices do seem extremely cheap. This is because of the government grant schemes which enforce utility companies to put money back into energy saving. The price the customer pays is subsidised by utility funding, therefore this means that on average the customer only pays around 30% of the cost.

Despite what the energy care employee says - their customer service is hopeless! One has to harrass the poor reception girls to get any sort of response.

Do not expect them to return calls - particularly if you have a potential problem.

We had roof and cavity insulation done by them - roof is OK but certainly not the standard I expected from professionals. The cavity wall was iffy and I suspected voids. It is a large property - best part of £1000!

After repeated calls and lost papers, etc etc we got the inspector and he condemed the cavity wall within 10 mins having found 5 voids!

We now expect to have to go through the usual ritual of trying to get some confirmation of when and how they propose to fix the problem.

I would not recommend Energy care to anyone.

Their crews do go to training our lot were moaning that they had to go again - but our experience suggests the training is in effective.

I have fitted insulation for 2 major companies and now survey for a third one.All the companies i have worked for and dealt with have rubbish fitters who really arent that bothered about the completeness of the fill or how the job looks after..equally there are some very good fitters out there who take pride in their work..you cant tar a whole organisation from a couple of jobs reported on here.
