Hi Guys I just knew I would find a thread on MSE that might help me. We (hubby, me and 2 teenagers)are planning a first ever trip to NY and hope to go between Xmas and New Year and be there for NYE - stay around 7 days.
I have a little look around but there doesn't seem to be much yet, am I a little early?
So what I really need is:
~ where should we stay (any recommendations?)
~ where should we look to book
~ is it cheaper to get package or flights then hotel

    Thanks guys

We went last July and had booked in the previous November. Prices for flights and hotels crept up substantially over the months, and we couldn't have afforded to get flights and go to same hotel if I'd waited another few weeks. Might be different this year, but New York is always busy.

And yet, we went at the end of Nov '11 and booked at the end of Sept. Friends we were going with booked Feb '11 and we ended up getting better flight times plus an extra night at the same hotel (stayed an extra night) for £40 less each!

1 - What is your budget. As you're wanting to stay at probably the most expensive time of year, the budget is probably the most limiting. Also, what beds do you need in the room. without these questions being answered makes it very difficult to recommend where to stay.

2 - Online is probably the best place to book, as it is easy to shop around. I don't think anyone on here would recommend a travel agent.

3 - Depends, some people swear by packages, some people prefer booking things separately. It may work out cheaper to book a package because of the dates you're wanting to book

Wooohooo! what a fantastic 4 days! ill be back soon to submit my report ;)

Have to recommend the Staybridge Suites tho, great hotel! Great location, and the street is not bad at all, yes there are a couple of sex shops on it, but hey ho! I felt as safe there as any UK city.

I understand you want a good deal, but you have to bear in mind that NYC is probably the most expensive date to get a hotel in NYC.

I've done a search on quikbook for a room that will hold three adults. The ONLY hotel that comes up is the Tryp, at a cost of £400 ish per night (£2800 just for the hotel, and you've not even got to NYC yet!!), and that gives you a king bed, and a sofa bed. Finding hotel rooms in NYC with 3 beds are difficult at the best of times.

I've glanced at the Eastgate Tower, and that works out to be $4,058.18 for a room with 2 beds, and a sofa bed (therefore meeting your 3 bed requirements), or £2705 for the hotel alone. You've still got to budget £500 each min for flights too.

Maybe head into a travel agents and see what they can come up with, and then that gives you a good starting place, to search around online. It is kinda early, but bargains are few and far between over New Year.

And a bit funny when our 18yo took our 11yo to buy a DVD from a "DVD" shop. Dont think it was the type of films they had in mind.
