Hi Oldbloke
Payment was requested into the following account:
Account number: 43846601
Sort code: 404878
Bank name: Nordea Bank Finland Plc London
Account name: MCO Capital Ltd
Payment Reference: 10744-110012
Good credit rating? Fortunately yes.
Thanks for that ArcticUK.
We all appear to be the same ie. honest taxpayers, (is that another sort of scam?) with good credit ratings. There now appear to be only two accounts they're asking us to use.0 -

As you say, OB, they are using two accounts - one at Nordea Bank Finland and one at HSBC. I wonder why 2 banks accounts though?? I assume that all the alleged loans are "from" Helploan!!?:cool:0 -

Loan scam warning update
Date -30 Sep 2010 Return to previous page
Moray Council’s trading standards service has issued an important update to consumers concerned about an alleged fake loan scam involving a company called MCO Capital Ltd trading as Help Loan or Balance Loan.
The update relates to a warning issued just over a week ago when trading standards became aware of a number of local complaints about the scam.
At that time details of the scam suggested that people were receiving a letter from MCO Capital Ltd demanding repayment of a £300 loans plus costs which the recipients knew nothing about.
Trading standards advised anyone receiving such a demand to write to the company explaining they had not received a loan and had not applied for one.
Now people are being advised not to write to the company but instead contact the UK’s national fraud reporting centre, known as Action Fraud, either online at https://www.actionfraud.org.uk or by calling 0300 124 2040.
Moray Council trading standards manager David Owen said: “Our trading standards colleagues in Westminster, London, and at Action Fraud are currently investigating this issue and have issued an update on the advice we need to give to anyone affected by this scam.
“By contacting Action Fraud with a complaint, people will be given a crime reference number and details will be passed on to the police.
“I understand that Action Fraud are currently experiencing a high volume of calls about MCO Capital Ltd and they are advising people to use the online fraud reporting tool where possible.”
People are also being advised to conduct a credit reference search to ascertain if any fraudulent applications have been made in their name, with Equifax and Experian the two main agencies to contact.0 -
Thanks colinho,
At last, they've finally got the message!
And a quick message for geomacl. Yep, my letter came from Helploan too.
After everything that has happened this week, I've only just contacted Intrum Justitia, and the bloke on the phone sounded really fed up. It was dealt with very swiftly by them.0 -
Has anyone actually received a callback from action fraud yet? Is it better to ring later on tonight?'What's poignancy grandad?'

I didn't, but they may have tied up my call back details with my details when I got through to them.
The AF website now says it will take FIVE DAYS to call you back and are asking people to use the online reporting tool. I know that some posts here say that they can't get through the maze of the online tool, but there are a couple of posts that explain exactly how to do it.0 -

I saw this article re the three Moray residents last week
http://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/Article.aspx/1933752
and passed on the details of Action Fraud and this forum to the journalist covering the story (Donna Macallister) and asked her to relay that info to the 3 folks concerned - she seems to have done just that and the local Trading Stds folks have been updated - great what the internet can do???
I also passed the information on to another newspaper (journalist) who reported a guy from Monifieth who had been similarly defrauded. He agreed to pass on the info re forum and Action Fraud:j

Hi - first time user of a forum !
Got home yesterday to find letter from Balanceloan waiting. Needless to say spent next couple of hours trying to work out who they were. Thanks for all the helpful comments on the forum.
I have now written to MCO Capital at two addresses and have emailed them.
If it helps the text of my letter was :
"Reference : [insert loan ref number]
Subject : Loan Agreement
I refer to the above matter and your letter dated 10 September (received 30 September 2010) demanding payment of an alleged loan (taken out on or about 10 September 2010 in the name of [insert name] by 8 October 2010.
Please note that I have not taken out the alleged or any loan with Balanceloan or any associated company to Balanceloan or MCO Capital Limited and therefore no credit agreement between myself and MCO Capital Limited exists or has ever existed and it is therefore likely that a fraudulent application (as a result of identity theft) has been made illegally using my personal details for which I have no legal responsibility.
In the circumstances, I require written confirmation by return that the above loan agreement has been cancelled and my details removed from your database and any third party database under your control. In the meantime this matter has been reported to the appropriate authorities and is under investigation (Crime Reference Number : [insert ref number]).
Please also treat this letter as formal notice that I reserve the right to hold MCO Capital Limited responsible for any wasted costs (including but not limited to my wasted time) in dealing with this matter."
I don't expect to get a reply but at lease it puts my position on record.
I am a lawyer in the financial services industry (not that MCO Capital will care) so will cast my eye around to see if I can find anything more out about this scam. I think a stiff letter to the FSA and BBA is also called for.
I will update if I get any meaningful response from MCO.0 -
Hi geomacl,
You're right in some respects, the internet can be a wonderful place if used correctly, but it can also be a very dangerous place as well....0 -

What a relief to have a lawyer on our side!
