Well I'm one of those BT customers on Infinity and it appears I've had my free speed upgrade within 72 hours of getting the email, all the extra 3mbps of it! So I was on 52mbps and it's now a steady 55mbps. Effectively, it's made jack all difference and I don't know why they bothered! BT will know what my line is capable of, so if they've done me a favour by squeezing an extra 3mbps onto my line, I'm not noticing it!

I dunno, you can't please all of the people all of the time!

    I'd have 3mbos for free

Quite amazed bt have done this. Must be trying to retain their remaining customers

Maybe the might of good old MSE could ask BT what they’re going to do for existing Infinity 2 customers who are now paying more for virtually the same service.

I started an online chat to ask and they said that it wasn’t happening, I posted a link to the BT announcement and the chat was closed their end.

TO the moaners, is the extra upload speed not useful?
  • I got a speed boost, I had 52 M and it has gone up to 57 M (all these numbers would have been a dream 6 months ago when I struggled to get 1M) BUT being as my house is less than 300 meters from the cabinet shouldn't it be faster still?
Nothing to see here, move along.

3mbps extra speed? Nope, I can assure you, it has not made the slightest difference to anything we are doing, and we stream movies frequently and have multiple wifi appliances connected to our Homehub 6.

Prior to having BT Infinity, which I cannot deny, is very good, we were with TalkTalk, and that was a maximum of 2.5mbps and it was absolutely dire, so slow, we could barely do anything, so I know what difference 3mbps difference extra makes, i.e. naff all. Clearly, our line will not support anything above 55mbps, otherwise I would hope BT would have uplifted it to around 70 odd mbps. Clearly there will be customers who will benefit, but this moaner will just continue to moan lol! :p

What this has highlighted is, that in the future should we decide to leave BT for another supplier, not to waste our money on anything being offered above 55mbps. The line won't change, it's still copper wires to the cabinet, so no one else is going to be able to offer a higher speed than BT at our house, unless someone lays cable.
  • Hmm I tested my broadband on my phone and it is 71Mb but on my laptop it tops out at 54Mb. So yay I'm upgraded even more than I thought, just need to figure out why it's only on my phone.
Nothing to see here, move along.

You make an interesting point, however please note most other peoples fibre 1 package is upto 38Mb.

That is a significant different in numbers, but would 38Mb be ok for you? probably.

    JB66 talked about UPLOAD.
Uploading picture to the internet for example.

Coveredbees: I think you need are seeing the limitations of old WiFi standards.
If its a desktop computer you probably need a new WiFi dongle @ ~£15

  • I plugged in a cable for now, not that in reality I have any need for such speeds.
