So what Talk Talk are saying is because the UK public have to pay the line cost which only chargeable because Openreach charge the UK public to connect to the outside world on their lines.
So the only way they can make any extra money is to up the landline charge so they can do 'their improvements'.
I feel it's time that the landline cost is removed from connecting to the phone lines.
What makes me laugh is even Virgin charge you a landline fee even though they are in my eyes a closed loop system until you connect to outside their system on "BT" lines.The more I live, the more I learn.

How exactly do you suggest that the costs of providing the infrastructure of lines and equipment to connect to the exchange should be paid for? You can get the talktalk line rental for £162.72 for the year and pay it monthly. If you don't pay it for the year then they will add it onto your monthly bill. Then use the speedy payment discount where you save 15%.
So a 15% saving on their monthly charge of £15.95 takes it down to £13.56. This for the year works out at a charge of £162.72 for the year.
Since they introduced the 15% off for prompt payments I have only had their annual line rental, mine is due for renewal in October so can anyone else please confirm for me that their line rental charge can be reduced by 15% by paying quickly.

I will be paying monthly by CC and getting the 15%, as I already do with the current bill, when it comes up for renewal. I will then be out of contract and able to move away if I choose. I wonder if they are the first to increase and the rest of the sheep will follow.0

I was going to renew my value line rental when I noticed the astounding VLR price hike to £172.20. No notice was given of this.
Clause 16 of the TalkTalk T&C's primises regarding prices etc that "...we will give you at least thirty (30) days' notice of such changes by writing to you and/or publishing them on our Website.." and further that "...If you object to a change that we believe is to your material detriment you may terminate your Contract without charge.."
Surely I (and everyone else whose VLR has recently expired) am now at liberty to cancel my contract without charge as I can't renew at the old price of £114?0 -

i have just logged into my mums account to renew the vlr and shocked at the increase, was £114 last year , time to look elsewhere see if i can find her a better deal0

According to Talktalk's info on this you cannot get a speedy payment discount on VLR...

I did not know about speedy payment discount until you mentioned it so thanks for that.
I think I will switch to speedy payments when VLR is due for renewal. That will save money compared to VLR and not tie me into another one year contract.0 -
As there is no longer any incentive to pay the VLR upfront compared to monthly T.T will no doubt be upping their monthly line rental soon too.
