I took out a line rental contract with Primus vis Home Phone Choices on Primus Home Phone Saver, £7.99 - per month 1st May 2012.

So they are increasing my Line rental by £1.20. I suppose it's still cheaper then BT. Not sure If even they let me leave without penalty where do I go to?

    Any advise?

Customer service from Primus is absolutely appalling. Avoid at all costs

Are you not covered by this?
However, the majority of Primus's 650,000 customers will not see prices rise, while the cost of its exclusive deals listed on MoneySavingExpert.com will not increase.

I just realised there was a pdf attached to my last bill (from 28/6/12), saying there was a £1.20/m increase. Probably still cheapest, but it could have done with its own email.

The low prices are not much comfort to those of us who live in areas where the telephone exchange does not permit LLU (local loop unbundling)... Primus service is an unbundled service, and all of the low-cost providers charge extra where there is no LLU.

And yes, their Customer Services are appalling... they originally accepted my order in error and never actually got round to telling me that they couldn't provide the service that I had paid for, until I rang up to query something a few days before they were due to install it... :(

I must admit to being more than a bit miffed by this price increase.

I switched to Primus only last month (16th May) on the proviso I would be paying £8.99, so to find out they're going to increase it by 12% - which I have to pay for the next 16/17 months - is scandalous.

Is there nothing that can be done to halt this? I know in the past that some telecoms companies have allowed customers to cancel their contracts if any price increase is deemed to be of "detrimental effect"?

It's a phone line, why would you need customer service?

When the bill's wrong, month after month?
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
