Hi, What a great idea this guide is. Here are my locals to add to the list.
The Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum in Bournemouth is a fantastic Victorian house, stuffed full of treasures and best of all it is 2 minutes walk from the beach.
http://russell-cotes.bournemouth.gov.uk/
Also down the road in Poole is the Waterfront Museum
http://www.boroughofpoole.com/go.php...C46447FD56CBE6
Or Christchurch in the other direction has the Red House Museum
http://www3.hants.gov.uk/redhouse
All of them are free entry, and well worth a visit, especially if you are holidaying in the area.

Wellcome Collection in London is great
You've missed Wellcome Collection in London off your list.
I can't post links because I'm new, but just search 'Wellcome Collection' to find the website.
It's totally free and has changing exhibitions as well as two permanent ones.

Ok, Wales is a little sparse, no?
In Cardiff you have the Welsh Folk Museum at St Fagans.
In Swansea there's the National Maritime & Industrial Museum, and also Swansea Museum.
I can't remember off the top o my head, is Y Pwll Mawr/The Big Pit free these days?

The Museum of London is free, and from April 1st the Museum of London Docklands will also be free!
Both great with loads for kids... New galleries at Museum of London opening in a couple of months, will be a must-see!

This is a great list!
I΄ve found on my travels most galleries have a few hours which are free every week, usually from 5 - 8pm on a Thursday or something.
Have to check out a lot of these, I had no idea some were free!!

Museum of Brands is listed in as a free museum in London but according to their website an adult ticket is £5.80. Also the entry for Leeds Art Gallery is in the North West England list rather than Yorkshire and Humber and the description bizarrely reads "Coventry is the birthplace of the British cycle and motor industry. Discover the fascinating story behind the development of road transport from the earliest cycles to land speed record breakers."

In Tyne and Wear most of the venues managed by the T&W Museums service are free:
Great North Museum
Hatton Gallery
Laing Art Gallery
Discovery Museum
Sunderland Museum & Winter Garden
Shipley Art Galley
Arbeia Roman Fort
Monkwearmouth Station Museum
South Shields Museum & Art Gallery
Stephenson Railway Museum
Washington 'F' Pit
In Ashington, Northumberland Woodhorn Colliery Museum is free - although there's a parking charge.

The London list seems to be missing the V&A, Natural History Museum and National Portrait Gallery. I'd also recommend Sir John Soane's house which is based in a house he built for himself at Lincoln's Inn Fields, Holborn soane.org

Signal Box, Leeming Bar Station, Wensleydale Railway
The Signal Box at Leeming Bar dates from 1901. For most of its life it was located at North Wootton on the Kings Lynn to Hunstanton line. It was bought by the local Scouts following the lines closure in 1969. By 2007 it had become life-expired and was donated to the Wensleydale Railway Trust. With the help of a Heritage Lottery Grant of £21,500, it was completely restored at Leeming Bar over a period of twelve months and was re-opened on 2 May 2009.
The researching of the history of the signal box has been rewarding in itself. In particular it has helped us to restore it with greater certainty where detail has been missing from the original drawings. The testimony of those who know and worked these boxes is as much part of the heritage as the building itself. The Information Point opposite the signal box is very modern but provides a window on this past world. We think that this blend of old and new makes the signal box more accessible, in particular for young people who visit the railway.
There is a page on the Signal Box on the Railway's website (wensleydalerailway.com)
Ring 08454 50 54 74 for information on access times.

The Burne-Jones Windows, Birmingham Cathedral
One of the amazing exhibits at the Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery is The Star of Bethlehem, 1887 - 1891 by Edward Burne-Jones.
Close to the Museum is Birmingham Cathedral, a church dating from 1715, which houses four magnificent windows by Burne-Jones: the Nativity, Ascension, Crucifixion, and the Last Judgement.
The Cathedral is open Monday to Friday from 7am to 7pm, Saturday and Sunday 9am to 5pm. Please be respectful of the services which take place in this wonderful building.
More information on the Cathedral's website (birminghamcathedral.com) or by ringing 0121 262 1840
