For those with a environmental conscience try the eta at https://www.eta.co.uk. Unlike some organisations they don't simply promote the building of more roads as the answer to traffic problems. They do cover from about £40 a year. I am in no way connected with them other than being a member.0

Martin states that for a single trip buying top u pEuropean cover is the way to go - however I have not been able to find a cost effective way to do this for any trips over a few days the annual price seems to be cheaper (I have the 59 quid deal mentioned)I think....0

Whilst Auto Aid will transport the vehicle, the Ts & Cs state that they won't do this if it can be repaired locally within a reasonable time frame.
I think this is quite reasonable to be honest - if you have a puncture in two tyres, for example, it would be ludicrous to expect to be transported home 100s of miles when you could get two tyres fitted locally.
Similarly, if your car needed a simple (but possibly expensive) repair, that can be done same day where you are, it is not reasonable to be transported home.
We have just had our car transported over 100 miles and have claimed the amount to be refunded by Auto Aid. It is over £300! So you can see why they don't want to pay for transportation if a local repair was possible.
As it was a Sunday afternoon breakdown and the repair took three days, I don't think they can suggest it could have been done locally within a reasonable time frame. But we will wait to see what happens.
But anyway, Autoaid have refunded in full the cost of our recovery claim which was over £300 - in less than a fortnight, which is long before the credit card bill has even arrived let alone being due for payment.
Pay and claim is an effective deal - and a lot less hassle than all this messing about with dodgy codes for NU cover which isn't even as good (because no accident recovery included).0 -
Leaflet, which came with Capital One Credit card:Get 20% off RAC prices until 28/02/2006.
Call 0800 716 976 and quote FP0105.
This is better than the 15% off the website and while there are cheaper providers, I thought this would helps those who would like to stay with the RAC. Lawe :wave:0 -
Has anyone had experince of First Call breakdown recovery service? I was looking at thier home start option, it seems quite cheap but I just wondered what the service was like, my daughter usually drives alone so quick call out is quite important but you seem to get a lot for the priceThanx

I love making savings as much as anyone but one thing I won't take a risk on is breakdown cover. When you desperately need someone to come and rescue you, that's not the time to find out how good/bad they are. I have been with the RAC for years and I know I could easily beat their annual renewal quote by ringing Direct Line or someone else but for the sake of £10 or £20 per year I'm not going to risk it. The RAC have always come out quickly when I've needed them so I'm sticking with them. That's not to say that First Call may not also be excellent (I've no idea) but just that I would put price lower down my list of priorities than reliability when it comes to breakdown cover.Eh?? I give up!! Towel is getting thrown in here!0

Is there anything Autoaid doesnt cover?
I've looked up a few recovery firms and some have clauses like they wont cover broken glass so does that mean if you get your windscreen smashed they wont recover you?
For instance my daughter took my grandaughter out in the car (shes12) and my daughter got out for a minute to post a letter then my grandaughter got out too without warning closing the door with the key inside. I noticed some dont cover incidents like that even though the lesson will probably have been learned.
And I know they are things that shouldnt happen but like running out of petrol or water for windscreens I'd just feel better to have it all covered and does Autoaid have a 10 mile tow policy? The RAC seens very expensive for their recovery with no limit for towing so I wanted to check on autoaid but they arent taking calls today.
Does anyone know aswell if Autoaid is 24 hour call out to home? and has anyone had experience of home start with them?Thanx

I know someone who used them whilst over in Europe - seemed to provide good service and quick response times even over in France. However, they do not pay for your return journey on the ferry etc. That is why other policies may work out better as NU for example cover up to £2500 to get you home.Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0 -

Autoaid don't have a long list of exceptions - they recover in all the normal circumstances.
I don't know what you mean by a "10 mile tow policy". We were recovered over 100 miles at a cost to them of over £300.
Home start cover is the same as normal (i.e. 24 hours) but there is a limit on the cost of home calls - £50 iirc.0 -
Do they cover Northern & Southern Ireland?0
