On another thread I posted that I have been served notice 3 times in the last 4 years and another poster commented that I had been unlucky... just got me thinking about whether this was usual or not?
Can others who rent post about their experiences to compare??
I'l share mine....
Since I moved down to the Midlands I have lived in 4 different places.. first off I moved into a flat but after the 6 month initial contract was given notice as the landlord wanted to sell the flat to his mate.... next I lived in a shared house, the landlady was a totally nutjob and after 10 months I gave my notice - if I hadn't she would have evicted me or started charging me extra rent for my boyfriend (she was convinced he had moved in as the neighbours reported seeing him carrying a suitcase into the house - we were actually going on holiday that night for 2 weeks!). I was prooved right as the week after i moved out she served notice on the other two tenants living there - the reason given was erecting a satellite dish
.... next I lived in a flat for about 12 months before the landlord gave us a months notice - she wanted to move her recently divorced mum in... then i moved into the house where i live now -so far so good!
mm all sounds a bit eventful - maybe that is not normal!!!

I first moved into rented property for about 3.5 years and then moved out into a property I had purchased. After selling said property (4 years later), I rented again for 2.5 years and then moved into my current rental for 1.5 years! I'm moving next month as my LL wants property back (into another rental).:happylove Tori Bellatrix :happylove

First house the landlord and his partner split up so they wanted their house back so they had a place each. Second one put the rent up too high for me to cope with so I moved. I since heard from my ex neighbour there has been a high turnover of tenants in there since. Next house the landlord wanted to sell up. The next house the landlord came back from abroad and need his house to live in. The next house the landlord wanted to sell up. This one the landlord is abroad and I’ve been here 6 month and counting…
That’s 6 houses in 12 years – phew – might not sound too bad to some people but unless you live like this, it’s hard to understand the lack of permanence and the effect it has on your life.0 -
I know exactly what you mean - to me it's not so much the moving all the time but the fact that you don't really have any say in it... particularly if you are on a rolling tenancy it's disconcerting to think that any day a letter could drop through your door and you will have a couple of months to pack your bags and find somewhere else to live. I love the freedom and value of renting but it's difficult sometimes.0

We've lived in the same rented flat since September 2007, no troubles....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

After reading your stories I feel very lucky. I've lived in my current council semi for almost 17 years. Would love to buy it but can't afford it.
Hopefully you will all find something more settled soon.0 -

Idiot me - since September 1997, 10.5 years! I've got into the habit of starting dates with "20.."...much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0 -
lol 10.5 years is much more of an achievement - hope for us all yet! thanks :T0
