Fake 16gb pen drive bought on EBay

Hi Folks,

Check this out. I bought a 16gb pen drive on E-Bay the other night. It turned out that it was a fake pen drive. It was actually a 4gb disguised as a 16gb. When you look at the properties of the pen drive in windows explorer it even reads 16gb but it will only ever hold 4gb.

What did I do?

MESSAGE 1 TO SCAMMER

Hi Pillbox,
This pen drive doesn't work. Every time I copy files onto it they get corrupted. I've tried it on a few machines and every time it crashes. Seems to be when I go over 4gb. The machine shows 16gb in properties though. I've just discovered that this is a FAKE.

I will give you 2 options and you have 1 day to respond.

Option 1. You send me a working 16gb PEN Drive

Option 2. I follow this course of action having negated you with SCAM ALERT FAKE PEN DRIVE:

- If you refuse to reply or refuse to provide a full refund, I will proceed to file it under eBay's Standard Purchase Protection program. I will get my money back from eBay and this will also result in full termination of your ebay account. PAYPAL included.

Your choice. You have until midnight Wednesday.

RESPONSE TO MESSAGE 1 FROM SCAMMER
Dear mikeHi im sorry to hear the drive is dysfunctional, return with the packaging and I will issue a refund. My address is:

(I've taken this out for confidentiality reasons)

If you could include the item number. And your eBay name in a short note I can from there trace your payment.

Regards Jason

MESSAGE 2 TO SCAMMER

Hi Jason,
I'm sorry to also hear that the pen drive is dysfunctional. I'm not sending this pen drive back to you. I'm keeping it as evidence that you are trading illegal fake pen drives. I am giving you 1 day to give me a refund. Otherwise I will report you to your local police, EBay and Paypal authorities. If I get my refund within 1 day I will close the matter. If not then I will proceed as stated. Count yourself lucky that I am offering to close the matter on refund.
Regards

Mike

NO RESPONSE MESSAGE FROM SCAMMER

AAAAggggghhhhh!!!! Time to ramp up the pressure. What I needed to do was put the scammers head very close to the cooker and turn it up to gas mark nine.

MESSAGE 3 TO SCAMMER – LAST CHANCE WARNING

Hi Jason,
Just in case you 'forgot' about my refund for the 16gb fake pen drive you sold me. Here is the address and phone number of the Lancashire Constabulary in Spring Gardens, Accrington, Lancashire BB5 2BJ
Tel: 0845 1253545.

Here is your name and address:
(I've taken this out for confidentiality reasons)

In your selling history I see you have been trading quite a few of these fake 16gb pen drives.

I see the pen drive you sold me is pictured on this ebay fake pen drive warning page:
http://reviews.ebay.com/BEWARE-of-FAKE-1GB-2GB-4GB-8GB-USB-Flash-Drives-on-eBay_W0QQugidZ10000000001456613

What you have committed is fraud which is a criminal offence. Criminal offence means fines and jail. Plus your ebay sale history will really shoot you in the foot. You have created enough evidence to attract enough attention.

NOW. Do I have to push this or do I get my refund? This is your last chance before I open a Pandora’s box on you.

Best Regards

Mike

Just do a complaint through Ebay and claim back through Paypal Mike save you a lot of hastle;)
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:
  • I'm just sick of these scammers and it takes ages to claim money back on ebay and paypal. This was a 'put the head in a vice' approach.

A lesson to be learned - Pen Drives can be modified to look larger than they actually are. This guy would have made £30 profit out of me if I had let him away with it. Multiply £30 by the other 50 that he as sold on ebay. He has scammed £1500 quid.

He has since removed all 16gb pen drives from sale.

So why not name and shame this crook then?
 Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:
  • Are you allowed to do that? This is a persons personal name and address. I'm going to pass his details onto EBay and Paypal authorities to have his accounts shut down and removed.

Fair play Mike, good for you for pursuing this!!
Life in this world is, as it were, a sojourn in a cave. What can we know of reality? For all we can see of the true nature of existence is, shall we say, no more than bewildering and amusing shadows cast upon the inner wall of the cave by the unseen blinding light of absolute truth, from which we may or may not deduce some glimmer of veracity, and we as troglodyte seekers of wisdom can only lift our voices to the unseen and say humbly "Go on, do deformed rabbit again.....it's my favourite". © Terry Pratchett in "Small Gods"

instead of harrassing the seller through email just sen it on to whatever said company/brand that they are trying to state it is. if its unbranded police maybe? ebay and paypal wont give a damn... they never do. but i doubt thethe police would care about a 2cent flashdrive.

but your emailing is threatening and/or bribing... which makes u look bad.
