Choosing a combination PDA and phone
Options
I currently use an iPAQ PDA but am fed up with juggling this and a seperate phone, so am looking for a replacement in a single unit. All of the information on phones from the various networks that I can find is aimed at selling their various tarriff deals rather than comparing actual phones.
Can anyone suggest a website which clearly compares different combination phone/PDAs? I want to choose the phone first, then the network and tarriff, not the opther way around! Or maybe just cut straight to it and tell me which one I need?

I tried out the XDA IIi courtesy of o2 last week for an entire day (my mate works there, I want one, he let me play with one for a day - im not advertising for them ok!!) and I personally thought it was rather cool. It had all the functions I would ever want on it, had a very cool game that I got hooked on, and I found it very easy and intuitive to use, had a nice little charging unit and headphones etc, mp3 player, video's, camera, phone, office functions.
Anyway, my point is, when I gather enough cash to buy one, thats the one I want, as I thought it a very nifty and cool gadget.

Edited to say - p.s - go into every mobile phone shop you pass and ask for a little play of their pda phone thing, they are usually very helpful, and im sure you will see one you like pretty quick!#KiamaHouse0 -

is a very good review site0 -
Thanks, that website is very good and informative. But I wanted to see the phones "in the flesh" as it were. So I went around all 4 of the phone shops in the local town, asking abou PDA phones. 3 out of the 4 either didn't know what I meant by a PDA phone, or said that they were not yet available. Only the 02 shop produced their Xda 11i which seems OK, if a little bulky.

I use an iPaq h6340 which has triband phone functionality built in along with wi-fi and bluetooth. It's a bit wierd using an iPaq as a phone as the screen gets greasy from pressing my cheek up against it when talking.
As a phone, it does the job fine, and it comes with a hands free kit too, but from reviews I've read, it is meant to be quite unreliable. But I personally have had no problems.
There's also the new hw6515 Mobile Messenger which has integrated GSM/GPRS/EDGE and GPS navigation.
By the way, you'll be dishing out well over £350 for an iPaq with phone built in. I got mine free from work...0 -

The XDA is as large as a PDA, if you want something smaller then you should look at the I-mate JAM (O2 & Vodafone) still very expensive or opt for the MDA Compact on T-Mobile.
T-Mobile MDA Compact from Scancom Click Here is virtually being given away by comparison to the other packages.
For example 300 OP minutes 30 free TXT's for £15.00 / month minimum 12 months with a purchase price of £29.34 incl VAT & P&P. Total cost £210
Click the link above to see the four options available 2 @ £15.00 & 2 @ £25.00 / month. You will also see the specs of the phones & customer reviews.
Hope this helps

I have one of these
It's a great PDA and a good phone and I'm really enjoying using it. Just be aware that it's a Palm OS PDA, so you'd have to relearn how to use a lot of the programs in it if you're used to a Pocket PC."...And I gave that man directions, even though I didn't know the way, 'cause that's the kind of guy I am this week." -- Homer Simpson0
