Apologies if this has been posted before, but I couldn't find it anywhere on the forum. Also, apologies if it is in the wrong section - mods, please move if you see fit!
I was in Tescos the other day looking at their overpriced printer cartridges when I spotted these freepost plastic bags/envelopes for recycling inkjet cartridges. For every cartridge that you pop in the bag and send off (free P&P remember) they will give 50p to charity (W00t) and 50 clubcard points to your clubcard. There's a section on the bag to write your clubcard number, surname and postcode. Order new bags to be sent to you from tescobags@inkagain.co.uk
Eligible cartridges (original or other branded equivilents):
Hewlett Packard (any)
Lexmark (any)
Canon BC01/02/05/06/20/BX2/BX3
NO Epson
So, as I have a HP printer at home with 2 old cartridges, I got to thinking.... 50 points each = 50p off shopping or up to £2.00 in deals....Then I bought used HP cartridges on eBay for cheap.
20 x 50p for charity = £10.00
20 x 50 clubcard points = 1000 clubcard points (equivilent to spending £1,000 lol) = up to £40 in deals....
Not bad eh?
Obviously posting this is going to massively inflate the price of used cartridges on eBay now, but I figure I have got my fair share :j
Share the wealth I say! Plus the more people doing it, collecting their cartridges and their family's/friends', the better for the charities. :A
About to send my first lot off tomorrow - let me know how you all get on with this!
INSERT NOTE BY MARTIN
Tesco Clubcard points are worth 1p if you redeam in store but 3.4p if you use the Tesco Clubcard Deals offers for days out etc. (see value your loyalty points)
WOW! We got a mention in the Martin's Money Tips Email!! W00t! All that cash going to charity...hopefully! Bluep

nice suggestion, but i can't believe you bought used ink cartridges!0 -
LOL
well people buy them to refill at home anyway. Plus I added it up and though that for my £6.99 I would be giving £13.50 to charity and getting at the very least £13.50 of shopping vouchers hehe.0 -
Good on you
Clever thinking. I'd probably have passed the ebay listing and though "pah, what junk"!
Right, off to ebay to find some empties...
DavidWhat shall I put here?0 -
same here you've done it now, ebay wont know whats hit em, ps thanks for tip0

can it be any empty ink cartridge, or a certain make?0

yessssss we go through HP cartridges at work, easy way to make some money me thinks. I could get 60 of these tomorrow LOL, i will have all the used ones out of our office.:ASexy_fufu:A0

They wont take epson ones as they cannot be recycled, I wish epson would sort this out as it it awful really!0

Ok worth a try, husband says he has a box full at work so I just have to spend the next few weeks nagging at him to bring them home.
I've emailed them and also asked if there was an upper limit to the number of bags I can recieve or send off and also how long will it be before the points get credited.
I wonder if they will have these bags at customer service- always enjoy pestering them.
I really have to get myself sorted with this ebay thing, you really can sell any old rhubarb. Do you think I would get bids for the contents of my window sill ; a broken pencil, a pine cone and a dead fly LOL

Parsnips - see my original post for eligible cartridges!!
I was under the impression that there was no upper limit as they were actively encouring you to email for more bags! recycle more cartridges! etc...It would make little sense to me to try a national scheme like this and then limit it on a personal level....
The bags weren't at Customer Services, they were on one of the product hook thingys in the middle of the printer cartridges - they are small (14cm x 17cm plastic green bags with red "recycle" written on it and you just tear off as many as you need.
It says to please use the bag for more than one cartridge (but they give you 50 points for each one in there) and the T&Cs are:
1. Please do not send any other inkjet cartridge other than those specified
2. Please do not stick this bag on laser boxes
3. Please do not return empty cartridges to Tesco stores.
Lets see what happens though!0 -
They used to do the same thing with old mobile phones.(Not 100% sure if they still do) Handy enough if you have got a couple of broken ones lying around. The envelopes used to be with all the leaflets at the tills.0
