My brother would like to buy one of the new 3 skypephone mobiles.

By the looks of the website you have to top up £10 every 30 days to enable teh free skype to skype calls. This would be great for my brotehr as he doesnt have internet access and could call me and my mum and dad in singapore for free using skype.

BUT what are the other pay as you go charges like on 3??

I called them up but could really understand the bloke it sounded like

35p a min to other network mobiles.

15p to 3 mobiles

15p to lanlines

10p a text

does this sound right for pay as you go??? I have searched and searched there website and cant find anything about there pay as you go charges

Any otehr problems with 3 at all, all advice greatfully recieved, dont want to buy the £50 phone if its carp~!!

  • I have a work colleague who uses it.
She says it is a good little phone.
No bells and whistles, but just like any other phone really. 2mp camera, internet access etc.
You do need to top up every 30 days to use the skype feature.

Here is a link for some pay as you go stuff on three

    Hope that helps

Bear in mind the free skype calls are skype to skype NOT skype to landline mobile etc

On PAYG on the Flat 12 tariff you get for a £10 a month top up.
    • 12p a minute calls to any UK mobile anytime
    • 12p a minute calls to any UK landline anytime
    • 12p texts to any UK network
    • Free voicemail, in the UK, even if you've run out of credit
    • Free Skype to Skype calls and messages

what does this stretch top up thing do?? i dont fully understand that :o
  • My DD moved to Birmingham in September and doesn’t have a landline. Calling her on her Tesco PAYG mobile using 18185 cost us £40.00  in the first month so drastic action was called for. The new 3 Skypephone sounded ideal but we could find no user reviews on the net. Last Friday we visited our local 3 shop and were shown their range of phones. DD prefers Sony Ericsson phones and the salesman told us that these would work with Skype but it was accessed through the menu system instead of pressing the ‘Skype’ button on the special Skypephone. DD was happy with this as she will only use Skype to call home. She chose the Sony Ericsson W660i and signed up for an 18 month contract. This seemed much better value than the PAYG tariff. I spent the whole evening trying to install Skype on the phone without success. Eventually, at midnight, I gave in and called 3 Customer Service. They told me this phone was not compatible with Skype! I checked the 3 Skypephone catalogue which clearly says that this phone IS compatible. I called 3 again and spoke to someone else who confirmed that this phone is NOT compatible. I went through the list of 21 phones in the Skypephone catalogue and was told that in fact only 9 were compatible (mostly the more expensive ones). Back to the shop on Saturday and they changed the phone to a Sony Ericsson K530i without argument. Although Skype on a mobile sounds brilliant in theory, only time will tell if it works well in practice.

I just bought a skype phone and its great.

The first month you get free internet anyway, so I just bought it for £50 and havent spent anything else because we only use skype calls and messages and net surfing.

Next month we will change our old phone number onto three, and then they give you £10 of credit and then another month of skype.

From then on I think we will just top up £10 every few months and just use skype a lot in the 30 days, then wait a while.

If you do top up every month your better off on contract.
