Hi all,
Well its that time of year again & I'm starting to feel stressed already!! Christmas (my second as a DFW) makes me fee woefully inadequate because I LOVE being able to go out & buy lovely pressies. Instead now I have to hunt for endless bargains and compromise. Yes that can be fun but its hard work and takes up alot more time! Then there are the endless Christamas parties that sadly dont come free!! Work are having one which I'm looking frward to but theres another that I could do without going to but feel I should as its a good opportunity to get to know people...such is the dilemma of the DFW! Kids christmas presents, parties, family visits all need to be negociated & survived!
Anyway, I thought it would be good to have somewhere where we can support each other through what is a very stressful DFW coupe of months! Anyone interested?!!

Hi FF, I will join you in feeling stressed at this time of year. At the mo we have bought precisely one pressie and although I have a good idea what I am getting everyone, not sure how we are going to manage financially. I had these grand plans for saving throughout the year for Xmas, but as soon as we get anything money together, something always seems to come along to swallow up/use the money - the car mainly. We are spending Xmas with my family this year and I know I will be embarassed as my sister and my parents will buy us loads - we dont expect this, but they go overboard and I know that they are probably thinking that we are tight and our presents seem miserly in comparision.0

Stress? tell me about it. I LOATHE shops when they are crowded, hate the overpriced tat which masquerades as "gift ideas". In fact I wish people would just send me a card and have done with it. Then I can go out in January in the sales and spend the money I didn't spend on buying things for people they may not like want or need.Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0

Got 2 presents so far, (haggled for a remote control dragonfly on eBay - hooray!) but no ideas for others and this is when I go out and start to panic buy loads of stuff that no-body wants or needs! Eeek!0

Hi
Do make sure you pop over to the christmas board - there are loads of ideasover there for thoughtful and cheap pressies. I'm going to find all the extra spending of socialising difficult as we just won't have that money so will have to make excuses yet again...but I do like being in control of the finances and it's forced me to be more thoughtful in regard to presents. There is still LOADS of time to get sorted for Christmas and not make mistakes witht eh whole budget as well.
However, please remind me of this when I'm stressing my head off in a few weeks lol

I used to love Christmas until I had kids!
This is my first DFW Christmas and I luckily have some money put away so at least thats one less thing to worry about.
The big thing for me is cards. My family are really big on cards not the ones you get in a multipack but the £5 each type!
No idea what to get the kids so I usually end up paying a fortune for things that 11 months later are still in their packaging.

Im going to have a dig around for some forgotton cards.
Last year I bought a load, lost them and had to rebuy them and then boxing day they reappeared. I remember thinking at the time that i'd keep them for this Christmas but god knows where that 'safe place' is!
