Hi all,
There's been much confusion over the last few weeks about the availability of Citibank's 1% cashback offer on their platinum card. Hopeful of clearing this up and putting it in the tip this week, I spoke to Citibank who said it was not currently being promoted, and that the card would be pulled instantly if it went in my email as the demand would be too high.
As I don't want loads of MoneySavers to be disappointed when they try to apply for it, I've decided to take it out of the Cashback cards article, and instead put the link (which they have confirmed they will honour) in here for our forum regulars.
So here it is
https://www.citicards.co.uk/exec/citiplatinumd/engine.exe?offer=PPD&merchant=citi
It will probably disappear within the next few weeks if not sooner, so go for it. It's currently the top paying Visa/Mastercard cashback card.

And FWIW, as an agrieved (ex-)customer, I would like to say that I think that the confusion Martin mentions is predominantly the product of Citibank's seemingly false advertising.
Good luck to eveyone trying to get this card, I hope you have a more positive experience than I did... just make sure you are getting what you asked for.

p.s. Am I allowed to say things like that :P , because that's what I think!?0 -
Isn't Conran also in effect a 1% cashback card?
(I'm aware you are only guaranteed 0.8%, but hasn't it always been 1% in reality)."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
Yep, just applied, having read the same thing on Martin's c/c/ tip sheet!
Thanks, Martin - great job & keep it up!0 -
Martin,
Please please please don't believe CitiBank. Look at the many examples on this forum of people who have trusted them and applied (including myself).
This link does nothing to tell Citibank you are applying for a cashback card as it is the same page that I applied for one of these, only to find out after calling them 3 times, each time I was told I had indeed applied for a cashback card only to discover that they had lied to me and eventually I was told it wasn't a cashback card.
I've written to the CEO along with JohnK to inform him of our experiences.
Martin as the self appointed protector of consumer rights surely it is irresponsible to trust this company and post this link if so many moneysavers have had so many lies!!!!!!!!0 -
DaveK. This is after a discussion with Citibank that the offer is still open. I know there has been confusion, but its important there are two elements to the confusion
1. Is the offer open? It has been off and on. This is confirmation it is on and is available
2. Will you always get that card? No. This is not unique to citibank, you get credit scored and they allocate you a card. There is never a guarantee you will get the card applied for. Capital One are famous for this, but many banks do it.
So what i'm not saying is (1) is sorted, (2) will always be a problem but its not unique to citibank and if i blocked every card company who did that there wouldn't be much choice

I applied on the link https://www.citicards.co.uk/exec/citiplatinumd/engine.exe/appForm1.jsp
which lands on the similar page to your most recent one
it proceeds to an application form that will NOT give a money back card.
It will give a platinum none money back card if experian approve, or it will arrange for a citi classic plus non money back card.
I have been assured by a manager in Salford today that none of the newly issued cards have the money back element.0 -
Hi Martin,
I'm not attacking you I just feel that you've been tricked the same as the rest of us.
I also spoke with 3 different customer support staff from CitiBank, they ALL told me that I HAD applied for a cashback card. When I got the card it wasn't the cashback card.
You say that you might not always get the card you applied for WHAT!!! Isn't that like saying I'm selling a Car but when you pay for it, it turns out that it doesn't have an engine in it!!!!
This cashback applies to the Citi Platinum Visa Card via their website link.
Funny, I've got a Platinum Visa Card that I applied for via their cashback link on their website. So, if you are telling us that this offer is definetly on then who do I speak to in Citicards to tell them that I should therefore have this cashback, all the other muppets told me I had a cashback card but this turned out to be a lie?
I spoke to an (English speaking) Manager who told me the same as ceeebeee:I have been assured by a manager in Salford today that none of the newly issued cards have the money back element.
If they really wanted my business (and this offer is still open) this manager would surely have authorised the cashback card for me as I told him that was the only reason I was cancelling?
All he did was apologize and say that the marketing department had been known to do this!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!0 -
Be grateful that you got an apology! I was made to feel as though the whole sorry affair was my fault and that _I_ was the one that was lying/changing their story despite me providing every shred of evidence that they asked for.
In this instance, I have to agree with DaveK - if I felt I had just been unlucky and drawn a short straw then fair enough, on to the next deal - but I think they purposefully misled me and then proceeeded to provide appaling customer service by lying outright about a number of things even though the truth was staring them in the face. Boo!
But Martin, I understand that you are acting in good faith and have our interests at heart so have no wish to antagonise you - after all, you have saved me £££!0 -

Consider yourselves lucky that they could identify you!
When I called, they denied all knowledge of my existence!!!0
