Maybe I should post this on the vent board, but the way I'm feeling,I don't care.
Despite the warnings of some on this board I recently changed BB provider to talk talk from Demon.
The changeover went without a hitch, and realible service for the first few weeks,so I patted myself on the back for saving £10 a month.
However this week,in the evenings I've found it difficult to connect to secure websites and listen to internet radio streams, even as low as 24kbs.
After phoning customer service a few times(tech support at 50p a minute is IMPOSSIBLE to get through to)I was at first told there was no problem with the service but they would test the connection.
After waiting for the agreed time I phoned back, then I was told it was because I was a "medium" user, and caps were put on people at busy times to protect the service.
I hit the roof. The most I use broadband for is to listen to internet radio,at a maximum of 64kbs.I even put a counter on my usage before signing up,the most I was getting through was 7gb a month.
Apparently Talk talk cap you if you use more than about 30gb a month.
So another "unlimited "service that is not.
They say they think there is a mistake and I've been put in the wrong group, but they don't know when this will be rectified.
I'll give em 2 days, then cancel the DD for not providing the contracted service.

looks like im in the same boat as you. yet they denied any restriciton on my account. i do use P2P but im not a heavy user about 10-15gigs per month. i refuse to phone their help line at 50p. i have emailed them again and will continue to do so. if things dont improve i will be doing exactly the same as you and cancel my dd.
Shame as all was going well for two weeks and now this.!!0 -
Talk Talk finally allowed me to listen to my Internet radio stream at 1am this morning.
This must be the time they have decided is outside "peak" hours,so the stream will not disrupt other users, all 64kb of it..
Not sure if the same wil happen this evening as I'm getting round the problem by going to the studio where the broadcast originates and sitting in on the programme.
But I'm not letting this rest,I'm not a heavy p to p user, just someone who would like to use the computer to listen to radio.0 -
All I ask is the chance to prove that money can't make me happy.0

Thanks Sun,one thing I noticed is that if you want to cancel within the first week or two, they will let you do that without penalty.
Strange then that we all seem to have enjoyed 2 or 3 weeks good service before they started throttling our usage.I don't even think listening to an internet radio station involves the use of P2P networking. Please somebody correct me if I'm wrong as I want to get my facts right before having my next rant at them.
All working fine this morning, but as the day wears on,no doubt my webstream will get the hiccups before jamming up completly.0 -
looks like your right as my p2p software kicked in in the early hours of the morning. had completed by the time i got up. i dont mind if they throttle during peek hours but at least let me know. ive also found that the service disconnects quite alot which can be a real pain. i wish i had stayed with V21 now!!0

This is the sort of thing I have been trying to warn people about before going to services like these. TalkTalk, Tiscali and E7even are all the same. E7even is actually worse as can you imagine paying up front for 2 years service then they start doing the restriction thing and there is nothing you can do because you agreed to it.0

Having looked at the various posts in reference to CPW Broadband fiasco, I am now glad that I did not beg the shop to let me sign up even though I had sort of provisionally booked the service when I went there to sign up for their Talk Talk phone package! I was told that despite best efforts they would not accede to my plea.
Thank god that I haven't insited LOL As many people have said, they have a fair usage policy but that could be interpreted by them in whatever form they wish to see fit.
So now that CPW's Broadband is out of my scope, I have now gone for AOL Silver - despite it being £18 pm and only 512k, it will at least give me unlimited download especially on P2P which is what I want for musics, videos etc. But then, like all good things, it may come to an end but fingers crossed it won't happen!Better in my pocket than theirs!0 -
Ok,talk talks policy is that they cap P2P usage each day between 4pm-10pm to protect the network. This applys to everyone with them, heavy user or not.
I got this info from a lad in customer services tonight from an e-mail they recieved over the weekend. When I phoned last week, they gave me all sorts of reasons because they did'nt have a clue.
Two nights I tried to access that webstream and was not allowed on until 1am,so 10pm is a lie..
Of course, customer services and tech support close at 10pm.Convienent.
So now I will put my complaint in writing.
Even light users are being penilised on this"unlimited" service.0 -
Its nothing to do with usage. its to do with how you use it. Most of these were in the T&C when you signed up so you agreed to them. It states they restrict these services at peak times. Most cheap unlimited ISP offers are the same. BT Yahoo also stated this is the reason for them introducing the caps as well because of bandwidth hogs during peak hours. I dont see what grounds you would have for complaint against a service you read and signed up for.0
-
It said they may restrict usage.
When you sign up you have a 2 week grace period in which to cancel.
All was fine then.
This has happened in the last week.
I take your point, but why call it unlimited when it plainly isnt?
And I don't see how listening to a 64kb stream makes me a bandwith hog.It only downloads a small amount of data.
I checked my usage before signing up.7 gb a month.Is that excessive?0
