Its the usuall situation. They are allowed to call it unlimited because of the fair use policy. They have an obligation to you and others so therefore they think balancing it out is fair. Thats why you only really get to surf the web at peak hours like the rest of the light users want to. As I said it isnt about how much you download but how fast you download. If you only use your connection during off peak times then you can do all the P2P and streaming you want as fast as you want but a lot of people during peak times like kids coming home from school and people coming in from work just want to surf the web and check e-mail. If a lot of people use P2P at peak hours when the contention is almost maxed out then thier web speeds are affected.

I left BTYahoo because of the cap and because of the fact the network was getting so busy I could only get 512Kb speeds when I was on the 2Mb. This was nothing to do with bandwidth hogs but just the fact so many people would connect at peak times. Although I have heard they have made this a bit better.

I'm wondering if if my constant phone calls to them might have worked.
It's probably a fluke but tonight I can listen to my internet radio webstream in the evening for the first time in a week.
The people I spoke to in customer services were actually very understanding and could see I had a point and was not abusing the system.
I suppose I could phone to find out,but I dont fancy another half hour wait on their 0870 number.
According to their letter calls to this number are free from a talk talk landline, which I have.If I get a huge bill, even more aggro!

heres hoping you got it sorted. Seems a bit over the top to stop streaming services, P2P I can understand but streaming is now a big part of the whole web experience.

    Dear Mr Piggott

    Thank you for your email.

We now have restrictions in place for p2p users between 1600 and 2200 hours this has been enforced to help our fair usage policy to enable the use off internet viewing and sending emails

Please accept my apologies for the delay in reply.

If you need any more help, please email broadbandsupport@talktalk.co.uk or call our Broadband Support team on 0870 444 1820.

Juno, someone I know has TalkTalk broadband and apparently it will disconnect if you leave it "unattended" for 20 minutes.

Yeah, and for some reason using Firefox counts as unattended

I had been warning people off Talk Talk broadband since Dec2004/Jan 2005.

Yet people still sign up, and then complain when things go exactly as warned!
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

There are to many providers doing this kind of thing now. They lure people in with low prices and then hit them with restrictions. Other ones guilty of having these conditions in thier T&C are E7even and Force 9. Although E7even dont seem to be enforcing the restrictions on all people how long will it be?. TalkTalk dont enforce it from the begining And force 9 restrict file downloading of anykind during peak times.

I think Talk talk have relented with the webstreaming,it's ok for a second night, although it gets the hiccups a bit.
As Scooter says, this is not actually p2p downloading.
I did read the info on that before signing up,but can do that off peak,so it does'nt bother me.
    With web streaming,if I can't connect,it has gone,being live.
Fingers crossed it carries on without interuption.
    Paul.
