Passport costs to increase in October; renew now if you've less than a year remaining

What's this all about?
On 4 October 2007, passport fees will increase; up £6 to £72 for a 10 year standard adult passport, and by £1 for children, bringing this to £46. Passport prices seem to be constantly on the up at the moment, so its worth sorting it sooner to beat any future rises.
Apply now if your passport expires within the next nine months
You can renew your passport at any time, but you can only 'carry-over' nine months from your old passport to your new one so, to save money, apply before October if yours is due to expire (roughly) within the next 12 months.
For details on applying visit the Home Office's Passport Website

I've just heard on the radio that passport fees are going up on 4 October 2007. Its an increase from the £66 fee for a standard adult passport to £72. Might be worth renewing if you haven't got long left!£2019 in 2019 #44 - 864.06/20190

Also worth renewing early anyway to avoid the crazy new rules that are to be brought in, in a couple of years, where you have to visit the passport office (possibly miles away) to renew and, it is being claimed, have your fingerprints or other forms of personal id taken. Even if you have a few years left on your passport, probably cheaper to renew early and lose a few years rather than having to pay for travel to your nearest passport office and maybe have to take holiday or unpaid time off work to go.0

And all this info will be placed on the central ID card register for Big Brother !0 -

The last passport price increase took effect in October 2006.Also worth renewing early anyway to avoid the crazy new rules that are to be brought in, in a couple of years, where you have to visit the passport office (possibly miles away) to renew....
Want this be for first time applicants?
The next change will see face-to-face interviews required for first time applicants, from May in a bid to cut fraud.0 -

Initially yes, but the face-to-face and finger printing/iris recognition, etc will be introduced for renewals as well afterwards, although no date is yet confirmed. Presumably, it will depend on how successful is the system for the new applications and then on the capacity of the new offices.0 -

AFAIK, you can only renew up to 9 months early. Unless you wanna say you lost/destroyed/defaced it.
Or perhaps you can only renew up to 9 months early & get the 9 months added on to the 10 years?0
