Well it would be but women are under no obligation to change their maiden names to that of their husband. The passport application simply asks that if anyone man or women changes their name they will have to get their passport replaced.
  • Just a reminder to people that now is the time to send off for a new passport to aviod the price increase. The price increase takes effect on 4 October, with a ten year adult passport going up by £6. As long as your application is received by then you pay £66 for a renewal.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Bumping this again as the price increase is next week. Remember, you can carry over up to 9 months onto your new passprort. The weekend is a good time to get your new passport photos...

Try doing an on-line application. Part of the process is where you pay (by credit card) so see if they still charge the old fee.

Be aware that the payment bit is horrible, and crashed when I used it (some time ago) so that I had no idea whether or not the money had actually been taken.

Oh: the on-line application generates a form that you need to print, sign and post, but at least you pay first.

I was really surprised to find out they are £72 now (mine is due for renewal next year). I decided not to rush to renew early for the sake of £6 though, as there is a good chance the new one wouldn't get used for a few months (or longer), so I'll just go passport-less for a while to make the next one last as long as possible.
  • i sent mine on the 3rd oct, then strike action by the PO held it up, i have just recieved a letter asking for a further £9 !!

so its going to cost £75 !
now i have to ring an 0870 number to sort it out as none of the ones on the saynoto0870 numbers work.
