Mind you a South African passport costs under a tenner so I guess we could live in the same state as South Africans but dramatically reduce our taxes:confused: .

As a dual nationality holder of both South African and British passports I have to add a comment...
Whilst British Passports cost a lot more than other countries, you will also find that British Citizens require visas a lot LESS frequently...
Before my OH got his British Passport, everytime we wanted to go anywhere on holiday we had to purchase a visa ... The cost soon added up.

Personally I think the cost of a British Passport is well worth the pennies... (or pounds!!)

How inconvenient. I’d rather wait for the postman to deliver it then to have to go all the way to the nearest passport office and wait for hours before someone sees you to process the thing. But rules are rules I suppose and all these new procedures have been put in place to prevent fraud.

Want this take up a lot of resources too? Either that or you will be waiting even longer for the thing to be processed due to the amount of people they’ll employ if they don’t employ enough that is.

Just to say the postman don't deliver passports any longer because too many got lost/stolen they are now hand delivered and reports say many are still lost/stolen but I'm sure the Royal Mail was cheaper, but hey we will pay through the nose as we need a passport to get out this taxing country.

Thanks Mum, for being from Ireland, then!
  • you can get a free passport if you are over 75 yrs of age
  • Just a quick question. My passport runs out next May so will apply to renew it in Sept to avoid the price rise. However, I get married abroad next June. Will I just have to get a new passport after that and pay the full amount again even though I will have just got a new ten year one? Would I have any problems using my passport in my madien name for 10 years?

this maybe a stupid Q but if my PP expired in 1993 can I still renew it or do I have to get a brand new one,
I went on holiday before I had my son in 1986, and now that I don't have any ty's now, mum and dad deceased, son all grown up now he's 21.
and would like to start travelling again maybe once or twice a year or for short break's so if I have my PP but didn't renew it in 1993 then can I still renew it now.

What does this government spend it's money on!!! £72 for a passport is an obscene amount of money.

I believe you should be fine. You get a “brand new one”, whether it’s your first ever application or a subsequent application. What the Identity & Passport Service want to know is if you have previously held a full passport. They will then use their records associated with that as the starting point for their processing. See the page Am I eligible? The Checklist stresses that they want “the last passport you used”.
