New Baby Hamper Ideas

My best and oldest friend has recently found out she's expecting for the first time :j
:T
She's not due until December, but in true MSE style
I'm already thinking about a hamper.
I have a nice big basket that should do the trick, and have a couple of bits already in mind (shawl, cuddle robe, some nice toiletries), but wondered if anyone else had any ideas on what to put in - something keepsake-y would be nice.
I have a MSE budget (lol) of £15 after my above ideas have been bought.

To bulk up a hamper start applying for freebies now - and maybe even email companies asking for samples? A colleague was given a baby record book (where you record all the baby's progress) that she absolutely adored.
loads of them here: http://search.ebay.co.uk/search/search.dll?from=R40&satitle=baby+record+book
Also don't forget something for mum herself!!2019 Wins: Feb: £10 Aldi Voucher, Frankie & Benny's meal for 2; May: Game from Maynards. June: 2x tickets to Foodies Festival July: £100 September: £30; October: £1000, Goldfinch Merch Pack

My cousin is due in December and I started a baby box last week ,I managed to get a couple of cheap gifts from the John Lewis £5 off code,a set of neutral (with donkeys on them lovely)baby grows for £2 and a wooden jigsaw(for when babys older)for £3 that has animal sounds.
Primark had a set of 3 longsleeved body suits reduced to £2 they are lovely, they had other stuff reduced in pink and blue but I had to go for neutral because I don't know if it will be a boy or girl.
I have applied for free nappies ect ,I also have put in a couple of pack of sanitary towels (weird maybe but very needed after the birth)from the bodyform promotion last year as I have tons in the loft, you can apply for free samples from bodyform( if you aren't lucky enough to have a mountain of them in your loft lol)and stick them in.
I also wouldn't go for newborn sizes because they are so small and sweet everybody buys them and you have loads for the first size or two and they might not even get to wear.
Be careful buying clothes as you don't want to get clothes that will be out of season by the time they get to wear them.
You could add safety items like plug protectors ,check out the pound shops.
Boots had a 3 for 2 on Johnsons baby bath ect last week not sure if it's still on.
Try the freebies section for some perfume samples for mum and also shampoo ,conditioner ect... sachets for the hospital.
I think you just need to keep your eyes peeled and be creative.
Good luck ,my daughter is 12 now so I am looking foward to buying for a baby it's been a while.0 -
Thank you for your posts - I like the idea of a record book - I've kept basic diaries for each of my three, but looking back, a proper book would have been nice.
I thought I knew all the websites for baby freebies, lol, but there are a couple there I've not tried before. I'm already on the lists for myself, so can't reapply, but I will give her all the addresses so she can have a go.
I was wondering about some clothes, but seeing as she's already taking most of my 'outgrowns', I think I'd like something a bit more special for the basket.
I found a handprinting set on eBay I'll probably get - one of those things I wish I'd done for mine but never did - but I've still got this niggling thought for something 'different', so I'll keep looking.DFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0 -
Hi,
I have made this basic basket for my friend whose colleague is expecting
It consists of:- Set of 2 Winnie the Pooh baby-gro's - £3.99 from Wilkinsons
- Cuddly Toy - £1.99 from Card Shop
- Cuddle Robe - £1.99 from Home Bargains
- Bottle - 89p from Home Bargains
- Baby Hat - 79p from Wilkinsons
- Booties - 79p from Wilkinsons
- £10 Voucher - Free from Pigsback
- Basket - £1.99 from Wilkinsons
Total Cost = £12.43
I did mine with a neutral white/yellow theme as she is unsure of the sex of the baby, and as the mother suffers from various allergies and sensitivities I included a Boots voucher instead of toiletries so that she can choose something to pamper herself with0 -
That looks lovely Roz.
Hadn't thought of vouchers - I have a £10 M&S one that I got from a survey the other week - I'll pop it in the box with the other bits.DFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0 -

I'm doing a basket for my firend who is due in June. I've got basic vests and scratch mitts from various places. Primark have some really nice towels in at the moment with bunny rabbits on there is a small hand towel for £2 and a bigger bath towel size for £4 (prices may be slightly wrong - memory is not the best!!!!). They are really nice and make a nice alternative to a cuddle robe thing.
I've also got a nice frame for her first baby pic. All I've left to buy are some toiletries and I'm going to make some babysitting vouchers to out in there too.:j0 -
Hi
re keepsake boxes which from experience are so hard to find (when you need them!)
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/East-of-India-Small-Cream-Baby-Wooden-Keepsake-Gift-Box_W0QQitemZ190117301966QQihZ009QQcategoryZ36017QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I am a huge fan of east of india and they have loads of different styles and prices.
Not always cheaper on ebay once you find the right sort of size check here to compare http://www.temptationgifts.com/Products.asp-cat-6 I have used them and there was no problems quick delivery and well packed.
I am sure mum to be will love how much thought you are putting into this for her!0
