Argos Sent Me a PS3 - What to do?

I pre-ordered 2 PS3's in February, because my friend told me it was going to be in demand, even worse than the Wii - so I thought there would be no harm in buying a couple and selling them on eBay. So I did.

A few weeks later, I needed the money for something else, so I cancelled my pre-order. Argos refunded me in ful..

This morning, one PS3 was delivered. I haven't paid for it, because, well....I was refunded for it.

What should I do? Keep it and see if they contact me, or send it back?

Contact them (letter/ email/ phone), tell them about their mistake and if they don't come and collect it within a reasonable time you'll dispose of it (i.e. keep it/ sell it).

    Anything else is dishonest.

contact your card company ASAP and make there's no charge on there, tell them what happened and that argos is not within it's rights to have charged your card as you cancelled.

Well if they charge me for it, I am gonna sue them for taking unauthorised monies from my account! ....(Can I do that?)

i guess you can, although if they refund you immediatly and it didn't cost you any bank charges etc - I'd consider myself happy because I didn't end up with two rather expensive consoles that can't be sold for much on ebay ;)

i know it's really the point, there's a principle to be had - do what i did with woolies and write to them. you may get lucky and get vouchers. I got naff all from woolworths, but do feel a bit better that I haven't got a PS3 after it all...

Sue them? Doubt it... They can refund you once the item is returned "in a resalable condition" and then if you have incurred any charges on your account you can ask them to compensate for that...

So putting it on eBay and hoping for the best is out of the question?

At this moment in time, do you own it (not possess it)? if you've paid for it, then the answer is yes, you can sell it, if you don't own it, you cannot sell it, that'd be theft.

bit risky really... better just breathing a sigh of relief after it's all sorted

i imagine there's a lot of people hoping for mega $$ with 10 x PS3 all on ebay crapping themselves right now...

Hold onto it for a couple of months, if they don't contact you then it is a costly mistake on their part. Enjoy!
  • Personally, i'd ebay it. If they ask for it back, pay them the cost that they originally wanted - i'm sure you'll end up in profit anyway. Just don't spend the money for a while
