Giving up Money for Lent

Hi All!
Hope you've all had a super pancake day!
Spurred on by the thread of what people are giving up, I've set myself a challenge..............
I am going to give up spending money for lent!!
It's almost too crazy to comprehend
I've decided to narrow it in the same way the Frugals did. So money on food, utility bills, contracted bills, debts and rent is accepted!
Spending on toilettries - No - except feminine necessities....
Spending on munchies - No- this is not real food!
Spending on clothes - No - If it's broke fix it, if its just dead, bin it!
Spending on hobbies - No - I've got supplies and need to make more of an effort!
Spending on books/dvds/entertainment - No, got plenty!
Basically everything else is just No!!!!
I'm even going to make my mum a mothers day card from items I have already!
Anyone fancy the craziness of joining me?!
Cmon people it might even be fun!
I'm always surprised at what I can do, when I need to.
I'm also moving into a new flat, where my budget will be tight so I need to save as much money as possible. If I can get through 40 days of not spending then I will know that I can make living on my own a success!
And still batter those debts...............
(batter, get it? :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Tomorrow counts as day zero!
Should anyone else want to jump in, I'll come up with a definitive set of rules. although it is pretty self explanatory!!!
Quite excited someone else has jumped in!Wealth is not measured by currency0 -
I think I'll have a go at this one too. 40 days isn't too long and I might save a lot of money. I think I'll make my mum something for Mother's Day too:beer:100 Day Pot £13

I would like to join in too - but...what about things like train fare to work and kids dinner money?JUST DO IT ONE BRICK AT A TIMEPROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBTSWeekly Budget: groceries£50/petrol£50/Unnecesary£15DEBT PAID = 58% (£4,212/£8216):T0

It's more about spending money on 'stuff'.
That magical category that appears when I analyse my monthly spending.
I'd consider travel to work (unless its walkable) a necessity bill, same with kids lunches (unless you can get them onto taking lunch to school).
If it's something you know you have to budget for, and you have budgetted for it then thats cool.
Obviously writing down Munchies as a budget category is not a wise move!!!
So unless its totally necessary to your survival (and unfortunately girls, chocolate is not!) then it's a no no!!Wealth is not measured by currency0 -
Count me in then please - great idea. What's the end date yet? (too late for my brain to work anymore) - 1st April??JUST DO IT ONE BRICK AT A TIMEPROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBTSWeekly Budget: groceries£50/petrol£50/Unnecesary£15DEBT PAID = 58% (£4,212/£8216):T0

I've worked it out as day 40 will be 1st April. With tomorrow counting as day one!!!!
Good Luck Everyone whose signed up so far!!!
How about we all put a little score thru tally in our sigs so we can all keep with our collective progress.
And if we all keep posting on this thread about how we're getting on, what tips we've got for getting through it all, and if we're finding it hard so we've all got each others support.
I think we could all make a super success of this one!Wealth is not measured by currency0 -
I would have thought that this thread would have had more interest. I felt an overwhelming sense of relief when I 'commited' to it as I know that I have got a 'break' from money and have now got 39 more days to carefully plan what I need/don't need after 1st April.
I luv ur sig CAFCGirl - Martin says 'no' might be my new moto!!!!

Good Morning Everyone!
Just wanted to wish us all Good Luck on this, Day One, of the Lent Money Challenge...
I'm off to an ok start I think, made a concise point of leaving my purse and cards at home, I've had a hearty breakfast of porridge and bought a sandwich and drink in from home....
Have a great day everyone!Wealth is not measured by currency0
