But they block P2P ports when the traffic effects other users on the network.

I switched to Talk Talk 23rd December 2004, for days I could hardly use the service, other than to slowly view web pages for 2 - 3 weeks.
When they finally installed a new pipe, things picked up a little, though speeds go up and down, I was offered a get out free in January, but then was offered 150mb webspace and a few months free, if I stayed, so I decided to stay, hoping things would improve, when speeds did pick up a little I was then able to download, yet when I hit 30gb in the month, I was making up for the previous month of not being able to download, they send me a letter saying they are kicking me off and I have under 3 weeks to migrate out.
On ADSLGuide forum they are saying Talk Talk are kicking everyone one off who transfers 50gb of data a month, that includes upload as well as download.
I'm not a large down-loader, some months hardly anything, yet they kicked me off.
Although Talk Talks telephone service is very good (use in addition to other suppliers) their broadband service is very flaky and should be avoided at all costs.
When you are streaming video or radio the Gbs soon add up, as I'm sure if you are using VoIP a lot too. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)0 -
seems to be open to existing customers also

I don't use a counter but guess I use about 2GB pm ! and I'm connected 8-10 hrs a day!
although I don't generally stream videos, radio or voice
would have thought 30GB pm would be enough for most home users that don't us P2PAny posts on here are for information and discussion purposes only and shouldn't be seen as (financial) advice.0 -
30gb might be enough for a few people, not many though.
I think they should have a slightly higher limit, after all they advertise the service as unlimited, and then tell you "Unlimited downloads - as many movies, tunes etc as you like"
Yet the moment you upload/download 50gb they cut you off, no warning, or checking if it was a one off.
Now I don't need to upload/download 30gb or 50gb a month every month.
Unlike Pipex, Talk Talk do not have loads of pipes, and they are cramming too many users on them. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... what are P2P ports??0 -
Peer To Peer, used with file sharing programs.
Talk Talk throttle certain traffic, they are not actually blocking ports (at the moment) they just have a system setup whereby it can see what type of traffic it is and manage accordingly, so where you should be downloading at around 110k/s you might only manage to get around 2 - 4k/s.It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... Seems to me they should go on the NOT RECOMMENDED list !! How about 18866/1899 if you are on TalkTalk landline, can you use these still or do all calls have to be routed through them ??"0844 COSTS YOU MORE"0

I'm on Talk Talk for their phone calls, and use both 18866 and 1899 without any problem, you just dial the 18866 or 1899 code before the destination number.
Will stay with Talk Talk for my calls, even if I am going back to Pipex for my broadband, I only went with TT BB, as the price was right and I was already a phone customer. It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... Hi People,
Has anyone got TalkTalk Broadband and what do you think of it?
https://www.talktalk.co.uk
This is from their website "For this month only we're offering 1Mbps broadband and savings on your home phone bill for as little as £14.99 a month!" Offer ends 31st March.
I'm with Pipex £23.44, 512 and this is being upgraded (for free) to 1MB and also Tesco for calls £4.47 (free evening and weekend calls). So I could save £12.92 a month.
Thanks in advance for all your help.0
