Meal Plans 1st January 2007

Here is my weekly meal plan from 1st January 2007:eek:
Today: Round BIL for dinner
New Years Eve:Chicken, Roasts, Yorkies, beans, cabbage, parsnips & peas
New Years Day-Use up stuff in fridge, cheese, ham, salad, spuds etc
Tuesday-HM Fish Pie, peas and cauli
Wednesday-Sausage Cassarole & baked spuds
Thursday-Shepards Pie, carrots and cabbage
Friday-Egg and chips
Saturday-Pie, mash, french beans and cabbage
Sunday-Away:D
Trying to do similar meals each week so I know exactly what to buy each week, but still using up the ton of food in the freezer-will start doing this once freezer has run down. We normally have Shepards Pie on a Thursday (make enough for 2 meals so 1 goes in the freezer for the following week)and a roast on a Sunday and normally a sausage dish-so thats 3 meals. Then we have what I call a "free" meal a week which is oven chips (have about 3 bags in the freezer) and an egg (which we always have in)-so thats 4 meals a week. The other 3 will be whatever we find on special...stew, chops, etc etc.
Lunches will be leftovers or extra made from night before, soups, sarnies, bakes spuds with salad etc. Breakies will be a mixture of fruit juice, fruit, toast, cereal, porridge, egg on toast, bacon sarnie etc.
Hugs to all. Actually done 8 meals-but have everything in and chicken defrosting for tomorrow.

Moggins - what is Parsons Pie and can you let me know how to make it if appropriate? I almost always have sausagemeat in the freezer so something new will be appreciated!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. Just come up with this 4 week plan. I aim to start it on the 8th of January. I've just remembered that 8th Jan is Plough Monday (first Monday after Epiphany when the first ploughing of the year was traditionally done) and on Plough Monday you should have Plough pudding. This is basically a suet pastry roll with bacon and onions in instead of jam. I think we had a thread about suety rolls recently, so I'll probably make that on the 8th and then carry on with the plan. I can see I'm not going to stick to it

Thriftlady, lentil flan sounds interesting, can you post the recipe or let me know if its on the index?
My menu plan for the next week is as follows:-
Sunday- lasagne and crusty bread
Monday- Roast duck with roasted spuds, carrots, parsnips and shallots
Tuesday-Roast pork with veg
Wednesday-pasta with salad and ham and cheese, family favourite, all mixed together in a bowl with mayonaise
Thursday-Cottage pie and whatever veg is cheap
Friday-Jacket spuds with either beans and cheese or tuna and salad
Saturday-Home made curry from freezer
Sunday-Roast chicken with veg and yorkshire puddings
We still have a few bits in cupboards to use up for deserts, and lunches will be either sandwiches, beans/eggs on toast or something from freezer (home cooked) Breakfasts will either be toast, cereal or fruit and yogurt, I got a carrier bag of bananas (some of them are still green) for 50p yesterday from local greengrocers, and 2 punnets of strawberries for £1 :money: as they are closed until tuesday, and have other fruit that needs used up.All I need to buy (hopefully) is veg, salad and a chicken for sunday, and milk, bread and maybe yogurts. I will need to do a small shop next weekend though, kids are back at school so will need to stock up for packed lunches.

Parsons Pie if I can remember off the top of my head goes like this
enough shortcrust pastry for a bottom and top pie, probably about 8oz or so
1lb sausagemeat
1 onion
1 tinned tomatoes
1 egg and one beaten egg
Chop and fry the onion and mix together with sausagemeat, tomato and egg in a large bowl with a little salt and pepper. You have to get your fingers in and squidge it together, there is no alternative unless you have a Kenwood Chef.
Put a layer of pastry into a pie dish and top with the filling, cover with pastry and seal the edges (I just press the edges with a fork) glaze with beaten egg and bake in the oven at Gas Mark 5 (sorry don't know the leccy equivalent) for 30 - 40 minutes until the top is golden brown.
I always place a large baking tray in the oven whilst it is pre-heating and place the pie dish on that as it seems to help stop the bottom crust going all soggy. What you can do as well is brush the bottom crust with beaten egg before you put the filling in.Organised people are just too lazy to look for things

Bulchy my lentil flan is something I make up as I go along, so no exact recipe I'm afraid, but this is roughly how it goes.
Make pastry and line a flan dish/tin.
Cook a mugful of red lentils with some water until they are soft and mushy.
Combine with lots of grated cheese, dried herbs, chopped onion/leeks, a squirt of tomato paste and a teaspoonful of marmite.
Pile into the flan case and bake for 20-25 mins at about 200 (you might need to cover the filling with foil - or you could bake the pastry first with baking beans)
Lentil and cheese loaf is basically the same thing but without the pastry and with breadcrumbs added to make it stiffer. Bake in a loaf tin or shape into a loaf shape on a baking tray.0
