Do you already have contents insurance?
If you do then it should already be insured at home under the "valuables" section (unless it's very expensive e.g. over £1500 then you have to list it seperately).

If you want it insured all the time (which presumably you do) then you need to add "personal possessions" cover. This insures things that you take out of the house like cameras, jewelry, squash rackets, cash etc.

You should not have to specifically list your ring unless it is above their "single item limit" which is usually £1500.

yes it is worth more than that, and i do have contents insurance already but as stated they want to double my premium to add this item, which seems a bit over the top which is why i am looking for alternatives?

It sounds like a lot (although double doesn't mean much to anybody).

    You could try Zurich insurance.
I recently insured a £3K camera with them for an annual premium of £52.50.

Should I add my engagement ring to my home contents insurance as a specified item ? Or is it better to take out insurance with the jeweller ? :-/

Depends on value / quotes, but most people on average appear happy to have it on contents policy as a specified item both inside and outside home
    (aka worldwide & all risks)

Specified = make sure they list it individually on your policy !

Make sure you have proof of ownership and valuation
( original receipt ideal, or a jewellers valuation / photo etc) this will be require on any claim ( and possibly when specifying)

    Hi,

My folks have £20000 worth of jewellry. Can anyone point me in the direction of a good and competitive insurance company. No item greater than £1500, and they want to take some of it on holiday to Tenerife.

    Any help appreciated.

    Thanks

    Justin
  • Their best bet would be to add it to their personal possessions section of their household policy, this will normally give worldwide cover. The insurance company may want valuations of high value items but would have thought unlikely if max anyone item is £1,500. However, in view of the total amount they may insist on a safe at their home. I'm sure the insurance company would also want to know why they were taking that much jewellery on holiday and they may impose further restrictions.

Even if they do not ask for valuations I would advise them to take photos of their jewellery and a written description which would prove invaluable in the event of a claim.

Hi there everyone, I am desperately trying to get some insurance for a ring that I have bought my soon to be fiancee.

Problem? We live in a flatshare with 6 other people all with individual leases.

Have rang around heaps and no one seems to be interested in doing a flatshare contents/possession insurance policy.

To add to this the ring is valued quite high.

Can anyone suggest anything at all please...I really need to get this stupid ring insured before I give it to her (only to have her finger cut off as someone takes a liking to it).

    PLEASE..PLEASE....PLEASE...MARTIN? ANYONE? EVERYONE?
