Buyer says I sent them a damaged item

What is it with eBay lately? In the last 7 days I've had a NPB, someone says a parcel hasn't arrived (but waited 3 weeks to tell me) and now a buyer says I sent them a damaged item:mad: .

The item in question is a book and was in perfect condition when it left me. I always pack well, my feedback is full of comments praising my packing. Anyway, when it arrived with my buyer it had a huge crease down the front cover and the spine is torn as is the cover has been bent back.
Buyer is accusing me of sending them shoddy goods - what do I do?

Should I stand my ground as I know it was fine when it left me? This kind of damage could not have happened in the post.

I don't know what others will tell you here, I have no experience of that/ebay, but legally you have to deliver the item in good condition, if you don't it's your problem not the buyers, proving the buyer did this maliciously is going to be nigh on impossible.
  • Yes but I know it was perfectly fine when it left here. I did my part.
If the buyer isn't happy why the hell can't they just say so rather than start all this?

How is it my problem if the buyer has damaged the item?!

It's your problem because you can't prove it. Anyways, don't take my advice, other Ebay savvy people here will tell you what you can do.

Ask for a pic of the damage (assuming they have a cam)

How much did it sell for and are they asking for a full refund or a partial one?

  • Well, the photos on the listing show the book is fine. I always teke several photos from all angles to try and avois this kind of thing.
So the buyer is saying I damaged the book right before I wrapped it up and sent it? :rotfl:

I'll help any buyer who has a problem except those who get arsey and rude and start accusing me of this, that and the other. You want me to help then treat me as you would like to be treated yourself:)

I have asked for a pic and they sent two poor quality ones. The spine is almost completely ripped off and the front cover is bent in half. The book was wrapped in several layers of bubble wrap, then in a strong carboard sleeve and then in a mailing bag.

It sold for £9.99 and they want a full refund.

#9 made a good point, how about looking at your pics for identifying marks, then asking for better pics of the damaged item. see if it is the same book.
