It’s a part of the job you never get used to no matter how many you deal with and quite often as soon as I get off the phone I burst into tears myself.
You did a brave thing and from what I have heard so far (at work can’t listen properly) you did great, sounded fluidy enough to me. Great job Martin :T :T :TAll comments and advice given is my own opinion and does not represent the views or advice of any debt advice organisation.

Just listened to it and it brought back unpleasant memories for me.
I have been there myself, that dark place - not the same circumstances but still looking at suicide as a way out of my debt problem.
Martin - you came across great, I sincerely hope he did ring the CCCS to discuss his options. You are so right, it may seem like there is no way out but when you look back on it in a few years time you think 'What was I thinking???'
Good luck to him.

If anyone who feels they have a problem with gambling please, please visit this link. http://www.sfcghub.com/cgsf1.html
It is a place called Safe Harbour,a refuge for compulsive gamblers. You will find honests postings there from people with the same problem. Also there is a wonderful, supportive chat room. Please be aware that it many people visit from America/Canada so there are time changes. However, most of the time someone is around including a few UK folks like myself who visit on a regular basis.
Just read Wills post below. There does seem to be a number of people coming on MSE with gambling problems.I really would like this link as a sticky please mods.0 -
Fluid or not - who cares
Genuine, hearfelt and useful information. I have been down dark alleys in the past although thankfully not for financial worries, but I know them well and it's so hard to see a way out when you're there. Well done for reaching out and trying to make this one guy see there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

It was non-judgemental and kind and there was no ambiguity about what that poor guy has to do.Stercus accidit0

Just listened to that ....can barely see the screen for being all teary eyed now! Could feel the emotion in Martin's voice.......he is right of course.....suicide is never the answer........after all...for every person who seriously stresses themselves and others over their money worries.......there are others out there racking up debt only for it to be written off.....and they are not taking it so seriously are they?.....
My thoughts go out to this bloke.....hope him and his family are ok.........suicide is not an option...and certainly not one you leave your kids thinking about for years to come...........I know what it's like to lose a parent young (I was 12 when my dad died.........heart attack.........not suicide thankfully.........but then I've had my mum try this on numerous occasions (a different story)....still hurts all the same...0
