I can confirm it works on all routes - I got some day returns on my local commuter run (E Anglia) along with a couple of bargain first class leisure fares at half price. So far so good - thanks OP!0

Errmm.. I've just searched for Darlington - Edinburgh and Darlington - York return, and all of the prices are DOUBLE the normal priced (checked on thetrainline.com)
For example:
Saver Return to Edinburgh on Monday - £55.80 according to thetrainline
Saver Return to Edinburgh on Monday - £111.60 according to First Scotrail!!!
So as far as I can see, it's the same price as what you'd pay anyway!0
