:T Well this is exciting as it is my first proper “save your money” posting. :j
When booking a car with Avis, you will have a chance to enter an AWD discount code.
Enter D005297 or D005291 and get a big walloping discount.
As an example, a car group “C” from Nice airport on 14th June/18th June 2005 would cost £123.54 if paid at time of reservation on the Web. With the above mentioned code, the price drops to £84.25 :T

Please note that in such cases it is always better to pay at time of booking, narrowing potential problems when you collect your keys (especially if you collect them late at night……..

I understood that the AWD price does not include full insurance which is why it is much cheaper and you must have your own insurance that covers hire cars abroad.
If you use it in the USA it doesn't include LDW and SLi and you will not be able to have a car unless they are satisfied with your insurance.

AWD stands for Avis Worldwide Discount. Avis allocate the code numbers to various organisations, companies, etc.
Whether the price quoted includes insurance or not depends upon the Avis site you go through (co.uk or com) and what country of residence you enter, and does not necessarily relate to the discount code (although it may).
If you go through the UK site it adds the insurance automatically, through the US site you have to add it as an option.
The only way to tell which is cheaper is to try both ways as it can vary. With the discount codes, Avis also give the option of them just quoting the cheapest rate that they will give for the day. Depending on sales, date of hire, etc this can work out cheaper than using a discount code.
The only way to find the best price is to try all the permutaions. There can be a vast difference in price (£480 against £900 on a four week hire in Canada recently, both prices quoted by Hertz in that case).0 -
I used to use Avis regularly when abroad, but now they are just not competitive - particularly in America.
A pity because the queues at the rental desks are always much smaller than Alamo and Dollar which seem to be the cheapest.0 -

Perhaps it is because they are more expensive the queues are shorter? Only people on business accounts willing to pay for the convenience?0 -
I need a car in Slovenia next month on a one-way rental. Avis quote £77 or £43.20 with the discount code, which is obviously a good discount. Does anyone know if I'll have to produce any ID or a coupon when I pick up the car?

I used this code last weekend in France and had no problems nor did I have to show any tokens etc.

With ALL car-hire one has to closely look at the small print especailly regarding CDW.
The AVIS price includes CDW BUT there is an excess of £600 per accidentIf you are covered for Collision Damage Waiver, then you will only need to pay an excess of £600 towards the cost of repair, again regardless of whether you were at fault.
You have the option to reduce the excess to just £100 by purchasing Excess Reduction
The Excess reduction insurance cost is € 108 + VAT per week and you STILL get stung with £100 excess

That is brilliant, I am just about to book a car in France, I can save a whopping £47.20 with the discount code.
I was going with Hertz as I had made an arrangement to pick the car up outside opening hours, the train from Paris CDG gets in the station at 19:00 the same time that the office closes. So I will have to contact Avis about it.0
