Really trying to boost my points, (and save some money!), finally got the OH to consider changing from british gas.

Can anyone tell me any good / bad stories on the energy service through powergen / tesco.

By my calculations I should save £140 a year including the points I will earn. (to be spent on deals of course!)

I have recently got my clubcard on the advice of another mortgage broker on the mortgage boards. I used to be a die hard asda fan but so far I shop for food, clothes and stationary at tesco, books and cosmetics, I fill my car up there, I have swapped to tesco car insurance, tesco pet insurance and I was already with powergen so am colllecting points for that. Its all stacking up. A friend of mine says he's used tesco clubcard points towards his holiday!

I use Powergen & (touch wood) have not had too much bother with them.

Also I use Tesco DVD Rental - £13.97 a month for 3 at a time, one of the cheapest I have found.

Look at the Tesco thread on the vouchers board for shopping online.

Ask family and friends who don't use the extra points coupons they get with their quarterly points can youn have them, if the cashier dosn't notice the different name you can use them with your clubcard, also handy if you've got a few for the same thing as you only have to buy 1 item but get the points for each coupon! (if that makes sense)

Shop online as there are loads of extra point deals.

Register more than one card. You will still get the mailings with extra points in even if you don't use it.

I have joined their food, wine and healthy living clubs so get extra point coupons in the mail, hubby thinks joining the baby/toddler club just to get points is crazy. May be he is worried I might get broody

Can anyone tell me if the baby/toddler club coupons are for non baby products? Or are they just for nappies, baby milk, etc - have no need for those

I buy my breakdown cover and 2 mag subscriptions with points each year .... now saving them to see if we can get enough for a holiday

Look out for receipts in the trollys & especially around the tesco garages,if the receipt has a barcode at the bottom the points have not been claimed.I got 4 receipts at the w/e for a total of 218 points the best being one with 94 points,i got two of them put on my card this morning at the CS desk.Also you quite often find bonus extra points receipts in the trollys as well.

I did not know this. I have got several Tesco receipts for electical items. Do I have to take these receipts to customer services to get the points put on?

I dont have a baby but get the magazine and get occaisionally useful coupons, like 100 points for developing a film

generally for baby products you tend to be lucky if you get the odd one that isnt

might get the odd one for the expectant mum say for baby oil or something
else that a mum could use but not generally usually nappies bottles baby wipes etc

They often do great Clubcard points offers with the dvdrental service. I bought a 3 month 1-disc package just before christmas and got 750 free cc points!

And Joscar is right about joining their clubs - i am in their wine club and healthy living club and often get double cc points coupons in their mailings, and also extra points when i but certain products.

Just a bit of advice from me.

Just because Tescos offer points, it doesn't mean they are the cheapest. And even when you use the points for "Deals", it might have worked out cheaper for you to buy from another place.

e.g., Tesco Breakdown cover is (I believe) around £60 for 1 car for a comprehensive cover. AutoAid is only £32.

Getting points is great, I try to do it often, but make sure its the cheapest option

I believe you have a month from the date at the bottom of the receipt to claim the Clubcard points.

What is covered in the £32 auto aid cover ? ie is it roadside, recovery and onward travel? Do you think they would be cheaper without the onward travel?

I need the equivalent of roadside & recovery for 2 people in any car. Tesco deals do this for £30.75 in vouchers.

Hi Guys

I LOVE Tesco points! I have Pet Insurance, Powergen, Clubcard plus Credit Card! Oops forgot Tesco Phone. I generally get around £50 of vouchers each quarter which in Deals is £200!

I used them to pay £500 toward disney Paris last year with Cresta.
I bought a bed for my daughter from MFI. Trips to Legoland, Chessington etc Meals out at Pasta Italia .... the list goes on. Without Tesco I could not have afforded to do any of the above.

AutoAid don't have a website to look on though unfortunetly.

Even if AutoAid works out £1.25 more, you could then use your vouchers to save money elsewhere ...

Although I agree with you up to a point I also believe that as my points were received as a result of buying my normal shopping and I would shop at Tesco's anyway with or without points then the points are a bonus. Then anything I buy from Clubcard deals is in effect free. If I was buying things only to accrue points then it would be different - I would have to factor in the cost of the item as well.

Because of this I went for the RAC breakdown cover as I didn't actually have to shell out any cash.

I suppose if you were really disciplined and had lots of time then the best thing to do is to only buy the items that were cheapest in Tesco's to accrue points whilst making sure you have utilised all bonus vouchers and buy other items (eg fruit and veg) somewhere else, as what you are gaining in points may not actually be worth the extra money spent.

Thanks so much for this post, before I got into MSE I'd been putting all our receipts on a spike so I'd know how much we were spending but I wasn't bothering to collect the points.

Now I've been re-educated and will be sending off my receipts!!!!
