Hi all
trying to weigh up the pro's and cons here, give you a quick breifing of my situation

Im with orange and at the moment im running over my contract which ran out 3 months back.
The 2 phones i am interested in are the Iphone and HTC hero.
My only queries about the Iphone would be which network to go for? i know orange wont do any retention offers on it so i would probably opt for the £35 600mins and 500 texts. 18months

Orange iphone pro's: better network and 3g coverage
cons: web browsing limitation, and also heard you cant use you tube on there phones?

O2: 2 years establishment with use of the Iphone, no limitation on web browsing
cons:have heard problems with coverage

With the HTC hero there's the chance i could get an offer going through retention, question would be does the HTC Hero have apps you can get like the iphone?

ORRRRRRRRRR should i wait for the new HTC phone which i believe is on its way ??

Any advice please?

Apps for the Hero are from the Android marketplace - nowhere near as many as the App store on iTunes, but most of the decent ones are there.

I'd be inclined to wait until next year though - HTC's leaked 2010 Android product line up looks very promising, the Legend and Bravo models especially...

If you want a mobile that will probably work out costing half the price of the Iphone through the contract (with a good retention offer) but with the same features then the HTC Hero is a good choice.

have a browse through the androidmarket, its a great yard stick for the available apps, most of which are free.

I am a massive fan of the Hero, i dont have an iphone but have had a play with a mates and felt my hero blew it out of the water. youtube has some great vids, search for the hero reviews and watch the phone in action.

As an example of the web capabilities, i spent yesterday evening browsing the web looking for books to read, i was swapping between ebay and amazon on the tabs and it was faster than my home pc- no lag at all,

mine costs me just under £22 p/m from t-mobile, 200 mins, unlimited web and text, 18months which was another plus over the iphone which i couldnt find under £35 p/m

I had a HTC Hero for a day. Bought it, just found it slower than I was used to with an iPhone 3GS, so sold it again and made a £10 loss on ebay...

It depends what you want it for. I'm keeping my eye out for the Xperia X10 when that is out in Feb..

  • Sony Ericsson's record with software of late doesn't exactly fill me with a lot of hope for the X10, but I'm hoping they can get it right as they need a strong Android offer on the back of the X2's delay and the problems with the Satio.

Avoid t-mobile like the plague. (Poor signal, poor call quality, charges for MMS and voicemail) I recently got myself a HTC Hero. I absolutely adore the phone, but unreservedly regret leaving O2 in order to get it.
