Have Tesco stopped accepting manufacturers coupons?

Options
Hi guys

Just been to my local Tesco to grab some stuff for a last minute barbie tomoz (if weather holds out) and I had NO coupons accepted for the first time.

The guy on the till was ok and he tried to scan them through but they just bleeped at him.

Funny thing is all the extra Tesco clubcard points ones went through fine.

I noticed after a couple of the coupons (both original and printed) had expired so fair enough but at least three dont end until december 2006 and all of them were accepted last week.

Have Tesco updgraded their software or something so they know if you actually bought the item or not?

Anyone else had this experience? / tips / idea's

Hello wackojackouk, My Tescos hasn't stopped accepting vouchers and will accept them as long as they are in date, are all unique ie no duplicates and have never accepted internet printed vouchers.

Sometimes if the SA doesn't press a button on the till, the vouchers cannot be scanned, has happened to me before and when they realise they haven't pressed the button and they then do they go through.

More than likely if you go again and try the vouchers again they would scan through OK. I had about £20 off my weekly shopping yesterday at Tescos (without buying the items) so I know they haven't changed the software.

As always though, each Tesco store and to a certain degree each cashier has a different perception of the Tesco voucher policy. I never rely on it, it's a bonus when shopping but not an automatic privilege.

I had several accepted through the self-scan checkout.

I've noticed that I don't get any vouchers printed off with my receipt when I go through the self-scan tills. Do you still get them at normal tills and if so, anyone know why the s-s tills are different?

Hiya full-time mum I had some till spills last week, one for for love it magazine at half price and the other one was for a bag of chips completely free. They are very infrequent though, I have 4 Tesco clubcards in our family and the ones that are used infrequently tend to have the till spills on them. Perhaps as an incentive to get me to shop more ?

Not sure about self scanning checkouts, my local store does not have one and I have never used one.

I think it depends on the operator. In the same store I have been told that they don't accept vouchers if you haven't purchased, and that they do, I have had the News of the World Nicorette refused for a fuzzy barcode, then another time another nice SA tried manually entering the code and it was accepted.

If I get refused, I just take them back and try again another day/another assistant.

I used a fair few in tesco last night ;) at self service I got 50% ish off :T

How much can you get off using the Self Service as they have just installed these?

I thought I read somewhere if you use more than like 10-20% it sounds an alarm and one of the supervisors jumps on you

Yes you are right and invidual stores seem to have discretion over how many percent it allows. Some nice loooking supervisors in our store but I haven't had any of them jump all over me. Am I doing something wrong??? :-)

Hi all, I can never resist a discussion about coupon usage!

I agree with other posts, you were probably unlucky in that the Till operator did something wrong. Or watch out for those coupons that have the Tesco logo on - from the Tesco magazine etc - they won't scan unless you buy the item.

The exception of course in the current Tesco magazine is the 40p coupon attached to an insert on the final page! I picked up loads but my local large tesco has now run out of magazines already!

In my experience (every other day this week) Tesco have not changed their policy so don't worry, I'm sure it will be fine next time. There was another discussion recently here about Tesco coupon acceptance:

My local self service till seems to have a limit of 3 coupons and a maximum of 30% off otherwise the assistant is required to override - which they nearly always do.

I too have never had a till spit from one of these.

    Hi,

I tend to agree about the spit receipts. Never had one through Self Service either.
