mobile phone cashback scam?

I took out a mobile contract with this website called https://www.buymobilephones.net They offered a free handset and 12 months cashback on a 12 month contract, meaning that I actually get the year's contract and phone completely free. I was a bit suspicious so checked on google but found nothing bad about them and website seemed legit, there wasn't excessively pushy selling etc. The only tricky thing is you need to send in the bills every 4 months within 28 days.
So I've been on this contract for about 5 and a half months, everything's fine, nothing extra's been taken out of my bank account, just the £30 a month by O2. However a month and a half ago I sent off my bills for cashback and still haven't heard anything from them. Are they a scam or is it just slow? Has anyone had experience with this and actually got their cashback?
They say to give it 56 days before phoning, but if that's working days god knows how many months that would be!

So you think the chances of getting the money is small? Anyone else know something about this?
How can thses companies be allowed to operate like this, their website is still around, it's not like they set up for a month then run away.
I'll be calling them soon, and if it's not resolved I'm taking it to oftel and watchdog and anything else I can find
Will keep you informed.bad hair day...0 -
There's loads of discussion on this subject over on the mobile phones board.
Suggest you chase them up. I am with Dialaphone and have never had a proble that cannot be resolved. However I do send the claims in by Special Delivery.
Once I had the Special Delivery number but I had not received the cashback. It appeared that they had received the letter but not processed the claim for some reason. The gent I spoke to went to his supervisor and they agreed to process th claim there and then, acknowedging that I had obviouly sent in the bill, but not having seen it. Within a day or two I received an e mail and a text to say the money would go into my account, and it did.
Most people do not have probems with these deal, but you do have to keep on top of them.

Hi
Yes there are numerous discussions on the mobile phone board about this and many different experiences. I had to contact Trading Standards to get themobs.com to pay up and "met" lots of others in the same boat. They owe me for a Feb claim again and I cannot get them to pay without a lot of hassle!!!!! On the brighter side my dad took a phone with onestophoneshop and they've paid up every 4 months as promised, no hassle - so they're not all scammers like themobs.com.
If it's worth it to you contact your Trading Standards but do chase up the company first, send them emails, send them letters, pester the living daylights out of them, that seems to have worked for some!
And post something on the mobile phone board as you may get someone else's experience with your particular dealer.
Good luck!!!0 -
We are taking buymobilephones.net to court in order to claim our rebate which they have refused to issue. Posting a note on sites (really seems limitless as to how many people they have done this to) to see whether other people want to join us in this?0
-
We're considering this as they claim that they received our cashback forms/bills etc 2 days after the cutoff date (received 3rd instead of 1st October). Was there a postal strike on then?0

Do not use buymobilephones.net .they are a scam you have to email them to see what has happened to cashback guess what emails come back everyone please don't use and contact trading standards0

I can second that...I've been with dialaphone.co.uk for 9 months. I've received cheques after 6 & 9mths, and they also gave me £20 for my old phone. Very happy.0 -
My Dad was having trouble getting his money back from a company with an address in Croydon (I can't remember the name now). He'd sent all his bills in by recorded delivery, they acknowledged that they'd received them, but never seemed to pay them!
I like a good problem, so armed with my 2 month old son, I drove to their offices & told them that I wasn't leaving until I'd got this sorted out! Apparently, the address was a postal service only, but they managed to get a chap on the phone who promised me a cheque for £180 by the end of the week, gave me his direct line and his name (which I checked on my mobile phone whilst on hold) and the assurance that if my Dad phoned HIM every time, then he would ensure it was paid.
Result - Dad got ALL his money back & our son got a Travel Cot from the proceeds (Dad asked if we needed anything as he wasn't expecting to get the money back & was so impressed with my 'pitbullness' that he treated Harry!)
So . . . as long as you have everything in writing, are able to track everything back & are not afraid to get stuck in, you should be able to annoy them into paying if they're giving you a hard time.
Good luck!
