Tesco stopping voucher redemption for non-purchased items?

Options
A Tesco till operator today told me today that Tesco is stopping their acceptance of all manufacturer's vouchers, unless you buy the actual product, and will no longer accept vouchers even for the previous policy of up to 10% of the amount. Her colleague till operator overheard and seemed surprised and even more disappointed than me, and said that she hadn't been informed of that change.
Anyone have more info on this?

My local tesco will only accept coupons on items I have bought anway...I bought something the other day and handed over a coupon for it and she went into my shopping bag to check it was the actual product..How strict is that...I had bought the product as I remember a few weeks ago I asked a supervisor about coupons and she said "We only accept them if you are purchasing the item".It varies from store to store I think

In my area the stores used to accept coupons up to 10% of the value but often would let you give more if you are very cheerful. But if they are going to stop this policy then Tesco will become a substantially less attractive shopping venue where there are comparable alternatives such as Morrisions and ASDA.

My local stor stopped it last year due to "abuse" as I was very loudly told with everyone glaring at me! I was only using 1 30p voucher at the time! I think it depends on the indvidual store, check out operator, your face & the day of the week to be honest:confused::rolleyes:

Well I was told today by my friends cashier at tescos that customersa agoing to have to scan their own goods soon as their trial was so successful it will be coming to all stores shortly!

So maybe then no coupons will be accepted unless the item is bought or it won't scan -if so I'm off to Asda.

Do you mean that everyone will have to scan their own shopping?

This is highly unlikely in my opinion as they would lose a lot of customers.

They may have more self scan tills, but they aren't going to get rid of cashiers alltogether.

I shopped at Hull store on Sunday and used £11 of coupons including a £3 off a £30 Sainsburys shop, a £3 Intuition razor, 3 x £1 Bodyform and various others smaller ones, none of which I bought. SA called over the supervisor to check the £3 Sainsburys one and she said we take anything, we are glad of your custom!

    Hi,

Can anyone show me where there are any current vouchers to print off so that I can try them in my local tescos?

    Thanks,

    Riz

I opened up my purse once at tesco's and had a pampers voucher on top and she (cashier) said oh I can do that one for you, I was surprise but handed it over anyway and it came off, will keep all vouchers now (I didn't buy any nappies) :j

I wouldn't think threre's been any change in the coupon policy nationally; it's probably just your local Tesco that have reconsidered theirs. (Even so, you could probably get away with using a small amount of vouchers if you go shopping at the weekend with students on the tills ;))

Quite honestly, I don't know what their problem is, as they'll get their money back anyway (with the manufacturers' voucher, obviously not with other supermarkets' ones).

But yes, in my experience, it's always the individual store that the policy comes down to. For some reason, all the Extra stores I've been to seem to be more tolerant of coupons as well (in my case, anyway). :)

I figure that there's loads of people who buy the product and don't use a voucher for it.
So where's the harm in using a voucher for a product already in store that someone's gonna buy for full price and then I come along maybe 30mins later and not buy the product but have the voucher.
I got a great tip off here last week. 'try to pick the young lads who are on the checkout, they don't seem to care as much about policy'. I went to Kingston MK and tried it on with a very young looking lad and got away with over £5 worth of vouchers off my shopping.
Wouldn't wanna try this every time, but 'every little helps' :rotfl:
