Electricity useage really high?

Hello there, I am new to these forums and I did originally post my question somewhere else but was advised to start a new thread...so here goes My electricity usage is 10498 KWh per year which in another thread people suggest is very high. We are a family of four with gas central heating and we are out most of the daytime everyday. We don't have a power shower nor to we use our washing machine or tumble dryer daily. What do other people think and if it is really high how do I check that my meter readings are correct? I have only realised that these might be too high through reading these forums and I know this is the electricity we paid for last year because I have added it all up to use on a switching site.
Anyone got any ideas? Thank you.

Very high. Read your meter daily for a few days. We are a larger family using more than you and averaging 14kwh a day this month.
  • Brillaint idea.Thank you very much. I will do that and post the results on here. Just one thought we do have a fish pond and we put the pump on over night. Could this make the difference?

No idea. How many watts? Or does this help:

    Not guilty then!
  • 3,300 Kwh is meant to be the so called "average", so yours is 3 times higher.

You obviously have your bills for a year, which is where you calculated your useage, can you post the meter readings from the first and last bill, with dates, and whether they were estimates or actuals ?

  • Your averaging 30 units a day which doesnt seem a lot, however i would take a reading same time each day for 4-5 days then ring your supplier and ask them to look into your consumption as you are querying it! Also, you could get eletrician for peace of mind and get him to trace where the supply is going to and from and he can also advise you what it is in your property that is making your consumption high. If you dont want to do that then you can ask your supplier for a check meter to be installed this will check meter running efficiently -note if meter is digital is very doubtful a fault will be found but if old style meter where it has several dial clocks occasionally these can be faulty. This will cost you and your looking at over £100. However you will get peace of mind if no satisfaction when supplier looks at the 4-5 day readings. Hope this helps!

Disagree! Family of four with gas heating? More than 15kwh a day is high IMO.

Wow . Thank you everyone for all your help and advice. I will be taking a reading today at 1.05pm following Magentsue's advice and I will let you know what we have used in 24hours. It might be slightly higher than usual because we are all at home for the Easter break. Chester_draws asked for my readings well here they are and they are actual readings not estimates.

Hang on. You have gas CH and Economy 7? Or are your day and night readings added together and charged as single rate tariff?

    Are all readings actual?
